Let me see your AK pictures????

I've gone full circle with Russian rifles. I owned a bunch about 10yrs ago and sold them off. I recently picked up a few Mak90's and an SA93 and I've got the bug again.

Let me see your AK pictures?

And I'll show you mine.

Boy those Chinese rifle are tough to beat. My cousinís stable is full of different Chinese rifles including a couple MAK 90s, NHM 91s a 56S underfolder and an NDM 86, every one of them is a great gun and very accurate.

Hereís a couple of my cousin's weapons:

The NDM86 as it was when he bought it.

After installing the black Russian polymer.

His 56S-1 underfolder.

Iíve only got two also so far.

The rifle on top with the light wood is a Hungarian SA-85M, on the bottom with the darker wood is a Bulgarian SLR-100H.

How'd you get the bayonet lug back on, and where'd you get the bayonet?
Thanks

I've heard of guys that were going to add weld to the sides of the lug and file it to shape. Most of the lug is still there, usually only the ears were ground off.

But I bought a new gas block with an unmolested bayo lug from either AArsenal/Global Trades or K-Var. I then shipped the rifle to an AK smith in Colo. Srpgs for installation. He also threaded the muzzle and installed the spring and detent for the slant brake.

The bayonet I found at a gunshow for $25.

Nice pictures!!

I'm curious about the opinions on the AKs that have optics. Durability and such???? I'd like to put optics on my 3 AK's but I'm not sure what configuration would be best. I'm basically looking to turn them into CQ guns. None of my AK's have rails on the side but I don't know if that is worth it?

Tantal has siderail kits for ~$25 IIRC. My SAR-1 came with the rail installed.

I am very happy with my Gen2 Kobra. It's not very heavy, it takes batteries available at any Radio Shack (I've got 2 spare batteries in the SAW grip's trapdoor compartment), and it's MUCH MUCH easier to use than the iron sights. Both eyes open, faster target acquisition, and more reliable... my groups halved in size when I started using it because it was so much easier to aim. Gen2 Kobra runs around $240 from Tantal right now.

I hear that.

My first semi-auto rifle as a Russian SKS and I went through the whole optics ordeal with that rifle. My groups and effective range with the rifle increased drastically with a 4x scope. The problem was you needed to take the mount off everytime you cleaned the gun. I've got two Russian SKS's now and I'm happy keeping them with Irons, but the AK's are less ergonimical IMHO than the SKS and would be better with optics.

Does anyone know of a scout configuration of the AK?

The AK side rail does not lose zero when you remove it... it's a very secure clamp.

Scout-AK wise, there is the Ultimak mount (google it)... it's expensive and you lose your top handguard. I don't know that I'd trust anything mounted on the gas tube, though.

SAR-1, 20rd AMD-65 magazine (Tapco), Galil-style handguard (Tapco, don't know how well it handles heat yet), SAW-style PG (Tapco), Commie flash hider, Gen2 Kobra, 1" buttpad extension (Tapco again...). $20 worth of Hunter's Specialties spray paint and a couple of hours time.
mag = $5 (price has gone up since), hg = $40, pg = $20, pad = $10, Kobra = $230, paint = $20... wow that's adding up.

Heres some pics (hopefully) of my latest, a Polytech AK-47S, 81 blahblahblah. I had to fix the wood, but otherwise runs like a top, a 100 meter bottle killer.

My lone AK is a SAR 1...The furniture that came on the gun was very bad and was replaced with the synthetic stock, I also added a Power Custom trigger...This gun ain't pretty but it shoots anything I feed it no matter how dirty it is...I don't recall this thing ever giving me any trouble of any kind...Mike
