| M.S.A.R. STG 556
Greetings to all! I'm new around here, so this is my first posting. I was curious to see if any others out there have picked up the new STG 556. I purchased one about a week ago, and I'm actually quite impressed. For those of you not yet familiar, It's a bullpup rifle based on the Steyer AUG, with some slight improvments. It's an ugly looking rifle, but is engineered tighter than any firearm I've ever owned, held or fired. This thing is so tight it has to be broken in over the course of an afternoon. I was very impressed with the crisp, clean accuracy out of the box. The integrated 1.5x sight just needed very slight adjustments. As it is still very new, parts and accessories are a bit hard to come by, but should be up to demand shortly, according to a Microtech rep. Any of you who own this rifle, or anyone else for that matter, feel free to comment or question. |

So, you've had it a while now . . . how's the reliability? Accuracy? How's the trigger? Enquiring minds want to know. (BTW, it looks like Steyr is going to be re-introducing the AUG to the US market soon, though with a Picatinny rail on top instead of the integral 'scope.) |

i just purchased a STG556 as a Christmas present to myself and it's obvious microtech spared no expense manufacturing a top quality product. judging from fit and finish i can say the STG556 is just as good or better than my steyr AUG. i have the generation 4 which is supposed to accept AUG mags and mine came with the 1.5 optic. i've always liked the original AUG look and passed on an STG556 that i saw just before the election that came with the rail. my only complaint about the STG556 is it only came with one 10 rd mag. after coughing up over 1600 bucks i feel the rifle should come with at least 1 30 rd mag. mags are expensive and the cheapest i could find was 39 bucks for 30 rd mags and 45 bucks for 42 rd mags. overall i'm 100% satisfied with my purchase and can't wait to get to the range. it's my understanding microtech will soon release a stock kit that allows you to use ar15 mags but i'm not aware of the release date. they are also supposed to be coming out with ar15 mags that look like AUG mags but i don't know the release date. so far as the US made steyr AUG is concerned it's supposed to be released this month but at a cost of 2300 bucks. that's about 700 bucks more than what the microtech costs and i can't see that the steyr will be that much better to justify the extra cost. i expect the cost of the AUG to come down in order to be competitive with the microtech. it's just to d... bad that obama won the election because there are really a lot of nice new weapons systems due to come out like the FN SCAR, BM ACR, Steyr AUG. the future of firearms under an obama administration doesn't look good and many of these rifles may not make it to a dealer near you or will make it in very limited quantities. |

Coming back to a (moderately) old thread . . . Quote:
Breakages in good guns are rare, but Murphy's law being what it is . . . I like the AUG/Microtech rifles, and may get one for myself at some time in the future . . . but I think I'll wait a while and see how things work out; I really don't want ot end up with a discontinued rifle. (Maybe I'll build another AR while I'm keeping an eye on things . . . ![]() | |
