Which one would you choose......

If you were going to pick up a new battle rifle and the choice was between the FAL and the CETME,which one gets the nod and why?

I'd go with the FAL. I have one, a DSA STG and it shoots VERY good. Don't have a CETME nor have I ever shot one, but I hear too many bad reports about jamming, and other feeding problems.

CETMEs look nice, but you gotta go with one that will work, and my FAL does work.

And the verdict is... CETME sucks! Not really, but I would take a FAL over a CETME. But I would definitely have to pay more for the FAL. Personally, I think a G3 variant is a more fair competitor to the FAL than the CETME. My friends and I call it the SUCKME.

FAL... if nothing else, they come in so many flavors, have so much aftermarket support, and you can get much higher quality than the Cetmes you see out there now

FAL, they are a graceful looking rifle, a friend has a preban L1A1 that I keep trying to steal from him...... I already own an HK91 which is IMHO a product-improved version of the CETME, which is cheap-looking, and in the versions offered by the latest retailers probably inferior in quality compared to the origional.

I'd take the FAL since I think it would get me more on trade for my next M-1A! Just kidding. If actually limited to one or the other, no choice, I'd go FAL. My reasons have already been used so I'll just say ditto.

Sorry to be the odd man out. I've actually shot a Spanish CETME select-fire rifle. It was built in the early 1970s. It seemed like a better mannered H&K G1. Not as abusive on recoil. Fed and fired everything we could find to stuff into it.

Get them both!! The more rifles the merrier.

If two isn't an option, then I vote for the FAL. Parts and mags are in abundance right now.

I have to agree wiht jr but the pre ban cetmes are hard to find and have a healthy price tag on them if you can find one. I have retired my cetme and put it a side as a collectable and replaced it with one of the new $300.00 cetme that century built. I have had nothing but problems with it. i have to practically jump on the charging handle to get it to go and i need a mallet to get the pins out to clean the thing. century advertises them as NIB but when i tried to get mine replaced or fixed they called it surplus and is bought as is. Unless you want to pay big bucks on a pre ban cetme i would defenatly go with an FAL.

FAL for sure, when I joined the Canadian Army we still had the FNC1 as we called it and I always liked shooting them and was able to shoot them well. Unfortunately with our bizzare gun laws I cannot buy one but since I collect U.S. Military small arms I guess it doesn't matter too much.

Seems to me that you add nothing to the replies or topics, except your own rantings and are constantly insulting people. I think you need to take your life elsewhere.

Mike, this little fellow has been thrown off of every Board he infests. He'll be removed from here shortly enough. His modus operandi is to arrive, spewing meaningless and contorted "facts" about, "proving' whatever his medicated mind has siezed upon. He will remain insulting, and dangerous if anyone is stupid enough, or naive enough to believe what he says.

He is a convicted felon. Unable to own arms. I've never, in any of the posts he's made, heard anything from him involving his military, police, or security background. His maunderings seem to come from selected pages of the popular gun press. Then again, I'm not altogether sure that he's not still a guest of the state. Whatever, if we don't feed it, eventually it will go away, or be removed.

By the way, oh most exalted one, Lfox is a lady. I'm pretty sure that somewhere in your blighted little life you've been exposed to one of them.
