Favorite .22 automatic pistol

This is not a survey and there are no prizes, but I'd like to hear about your favorite 22 pistol and why.

I'd have to say my High Standard "Sharpshooter". A great shooter, good look and feel, and I love the simplicity of take down with the push button tip-off barrel.

Re: Favorite .22 automatic pistol

My first gun ever and the only .22 pistols I've ever owned are both Rugers. I'd love to have an old Woodsman or even better a classic High Standard but the only one I ever fired had a nasty habit of double firing. So I'd have to go with Ruger but like Snake, I'm really enjoying they .22 conversions for the P-35 and my Makarov too.

Re: Favorite .22 automatic pistol

I own a dozen or so .22 autopistols, and it's not easy picking one favorite. But I can get it down to three:

.22 converted P.38: Just a blast to shoot. I like the way it feels in my hand, and I love the sights. The front sight is .140" wide, as opposed to the "normal" pistol front sight of .125", and it's really easy to see and holds my attention. Cons: I only have one magazine (replacements are about $100  ), it only holds eight rounds, and it's hard to load (very stiff spring, even though it has a built-in follower button).

.22 converted P.35: Again, I like the way the High Power feels in my hand. The sights are sharp but print a bit high (2" to 4" at 50 feet, depending on how hard I hold the thing). Extremely reliable. The mags are very easy to load (I have four, two 10s and two 14s). Fabulous range toy and plinker.

.22 converted (Ciener) 1911A1: Good sights that print dead-on. Utterly reliable. Easy to load mags (again, I have four, two 10s and two 15s). Since building this gun up in 2007, I've put twice as many rounds through it (over 15,000) as any of my other .22 autopistols in that time period. I like shooting this gun better than I do my Colt .22/45 converted 1911.

All three of these guns are about equal in accuracy (1.25-1.5" @ 50 feet from the bench). My Ruger MKII will do a half-inch from the bench, but for some reason I don't enjoy shooting it as much as I do any of the above three.

In the "pocket pistol" category, I have Walther PP and PPK, Beretta 70 and 948, and a few random ERMAs, Iver Johnson, Llama, etc. My favorite one to actually shoot is the Beretta 70.

two really, a ACE that I got from a friends dad, just because it was Bill's and when he passed, his dad said I was deserving of it for all I had done during his illness.

A 4 inch match target second model Colt. a beat up exterior makes it one I can carry in the woods without fear, its a tack driver, having fed me many many nights. The balance, the feel and the unerring accurate feel of the gun gives me tons of confidence. I really feel if I can see it, I can hit it in the woods.

Hi-Standard .22 LR, two-shot derringer: the easiest-to-use, ultimate backup, "get the f*** off me" gun.
No slide to yank, no hammer to cock: just pull the trigger and put two in his block.

Too cool for words,

USFA is remaking the 2nd model match target woodsman, about a grand, but its better than a 41 smith.

My favorite is my Ceiner conversion on my Swenson.
Next would have to be one of 2 Smith & Wesson Mod 41s.

I failed to not why. But I figure anyone who has shot them knows why, accuracy and dependable.

I have two that I really like. First up, is a Kimber match target conversion on a Kimber frame. The gun just shoots better than I can. The second is a Colt 4 5/8" Frontier Scout. Just a fun, accurate pistol.

First is my High Standard Tourney model, Then my Ruger convertable six LR, WRF.

Both are easy to shoot, but I really like the High Standard best.

Well, it's relatively new, but I'd have to say my Browning Buck Mark. I've had a Walther P22 for a little over two years and it's a cool pistol, but the Buck Mark is just a superior gun. Better, bigger, nicer grip. Real metal slide not zinc. Barrel does not have a screw on end like the P22.
P22s are nice nifty looking guns but the Buck Mark has classic lines, and, well, heck, it's just what a .22RF semi auto handgun should be.

My old Ruger Mk. II. It was one of the first Mk.II models made, with the 6 7/8" standard barrel. Eats anything, is accurate as long as I am, and has never been a problem for me to strip and re-assemble.

Second is a Model 104 High Standard. The pistol was purchased by an older gentleman in the 1970's, new. He rarely, if ever, shot it, was diagnosed in 2000 with Altzheimer's, and sold his guns while he could still appreciate what he was doing. It's been dead reliable, and is just fun to plink with.

Like Snake, I have other Ruger's, High Standards, Colts, Iver Johnsons, Heritage, Beretta, Bersa, Sig, and assorted older models of .22 pistols.

beretta neos - new to the market, absoute dream to clean , and fairly accurate to boot- the only thing is you have to get used to being called "duck dodgers"

That remains to be seen. I have an original Colt Match Target and a S&W 41, (5.5 HB) and the Smith 41 shoots circles around my match Target. The Colt will outshoot my Buckmark but my 41 will eat the Colt's lunch. My Colt was made in the 60s and my 41 was made in 1979. Fit and finish is about even with a slight nod to the 41. YMMV

We should also give credit for the Hamden made High Standards of the 60-70s vintage that were in the same ballpark as the 41

Re: Favorite .22 automatic pistol

My favorite was/is the Ruger Mk II that I used to have-it fit my hand so well that I shot it better than any handgun I've ever owned. My brother fell in love with it and I sold it to him, planning to replace it with a stainless, adjustable sighted model...which unfortunately I haven't done yet.

Re: Favorite .22 automatic pistol

I confess I miss my old Mk I Ruger Standard shortbarrel. I traded it, five mags and a .22/.22Mag 6 1/2" Single Six for a Mk II T-514 Stainless. The target Ruger is just OK. I don't shoot it as much as I did the more compact Mk I.

Go figger... I have an SP-101 4" .22LR and a Walther P22 not loving either one, not hating either.

Those two are the ones on my list and if I need something I can really hit with it is the Buckmark  I use the P22 for dispatching varmints up close as in a cage trap. The Buckmark is handy for stuff out a few yards when I don't have a rifle. If I have a skunk in a cage trap, I'll op for the 10/22 and stay back. With the scope on it I can nail the skunk through the 1" squares of the cage.
