Big Surprise

Picked up the morning local paper and on the front page was an article that Accuracy International had filed a site plan for a plant in Bowling Green, VA. Plan includes a test range. Land is already zoned industrial and firearms manufacturing is specifically approved, so no public hearings are necessary. Someone had their thinking cap on back when.

I expect they want boots on the ground for any new US sniper rifle bids. Plus, I expect they're looking at the US civilian market. Discovered in the article that their North American office is in Fredericksburg, VA.

Wonder if there will be an factory seconds at more reasonable prices? [OK, they don't have seconds?] I'd kinda like to try one of their stocks but the price tag is more than I paid for my entire 700. Hopefully, their prices might come down, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Great News... maybe. I'm hoping!

I'm excited to hear of their expansion.
Another Accuracy International manufacturing site in Virginia!
I'm Southwest of them but down here we have the Radford Arsenal where Alexander Arms has been kickin' it out for sometime. Another imported brainchild from the UK. They announced expansion into Dublin, VA five years ago but today Google says they never left the Radford Arsenal.
... oh well, gang aft agley!

I worked at the Arsenal one summer.

Knocked a window out of a hanger converted into offices whilst carrying a bundle of drip edge up a ladder causing quite a kerfluffle in the cubicles below.

The denizens thought a nitro building had blown up... again.

It was my last day there.

I'm getting an image of one of those Three Stooges scenes where a couple of guys are carrying a big plate glass window down the street and the stooges show up with a ladder.

Indeed, but not one of those dozen or so folks who had reflexively dived under their desks cracked a smile as far as I could see.

Not one.

Kid arrived at Parris Island at 10:40; bet her life has undergone a paradigm shift...

Be surprised if the paradigm shift didn't happen getting off the bus.

In other news, the kid has returned from her getaway weekend at Parris Island.

Apparently they have lots of bugs there and the food leaves much to be desired.

I made her burn her PT gear in the firepit out back.

One of the best mess facilities I ate was a Navy Base in Mobile many years back. As to MREs, I'd rather have the C rats. They even had cigarettes in Lucky Strike green.

When we were kids Mad Magazine had a parody of the Marine Hymn:

From the neck-high mud of fox holes
To malaria-filled bogs
We will march for ninety miles a day
Then drop out and die like dogs

We will land on mine-strewn beaches
And we'll live with snakes and fleas
Then we'll all leave Parris Island for
Restful combat overseas!
