Hmmm. I can't say I've seen any bolt action .223 rifle with a 10rd magazine. But in the "under $500" range, Savage's Model 11 comes to mind. It only has a 4 +1 capacity though. I haven't seen where CZ or any other brand has come out with removable 10rd mags. Although, I have wondered- with some gunsmiths having modified the Rem700 to take M14 mags- if somebody would ever come out with that some modification for a Ruger M77 to take Mini-14 mags.

Not 10 round but Savage is generally the best out of box accurate rifle. Not the name or the following of Rem/Win/Browning etc but usually out shoots them.

For 500.00 you can buy a savage and a cheap scope. If you have a friendly dealer to do transfers you can probably find a remington 700 in s.g.n for just about that.Do you want a varmint type rifle or a light bbl hunting rifle?

Or better yet, peruse the used rifle racks for a used Savage or Remington and buy an even better scope. I've now come to realize that a good rifle is useless if you don't make the investment in the optics. A good scope can make an average rifle good, a cheap scope can make an expensive rifle shoot terrible.

I have a Savage Tactical .223 and love it. I would have no problem with buying another.

This may be a little different issue to cheap vs. good scopes, but I've found I have more trouble with scopes. My problem is mostly in getting the eye relief right and that contributes to why I do better offhand work with aperture sights (which is what I have in mind when I get my Savage M11GL in .243).

I own and shoot a rem pss in 223 that I bought years ago, but, after being at the range last week and watching two shooters drill holes with out of the box savage 223 (the regular composite stock, heavy barrel with the accutriger I would and will buy one of them and stick a nice Leupold scope on it and be happy.

What makes the Savage Tactical so "Tactical."

I have a Tikka T3 Lite in .308Win. It is an exceptional shooter for a sporter weight barrel. I get 0.3-0.5MOA with Black Hills Match ammo.
I would imagine a Tikka in .223rem would shoot at least as well.

You can find them for $450-500 for the Lite model. They come with 3 round drop free mags, 5 round mags are available.

Ridge Runner, what is the intended use for the gun?

"Tactical" for bolt actions usually means heavy barrel, all black, stock with wider foreend higher cheek piece, and a often a grip closer to vertical.

Ridge runner-It SAYS "tactical" right on the bolt, that makes it so,right?? .Seriously,it is just the same mechanically as a 223 varmint, just black. They do offer the tac in some calibers for BIG varmints like 30-06 and 300 win mag.

The savage tactical is an excellent rifle. Put a good scope and it will serve you well.
