AK-47 Ammo Question

I guess I'm just dumb but I have only seen an AK-47 once. My friend/neighbor has one and neither of us know what the actual ammo should be used in it. I would guess it's 7.62 something.

Just one answer from somebody in the know will suffice.

Re: AK-47 Ammo Question

Ak-47, AKM, and 90% of the import semi-auto look alike clones are chambered in 7.62x39mm. Some, like the SAR-3, are chambered in .223 Remington. There are some semi -auto AK-74 look alikes chambered in 5.45x39mm.
