How does one open a can of Hungarian 7.62x54R?

I just got a 440 rnd can of 147gr lightball to 'plink' with for my nagants. This particular can doesn't come with the seam with the removable ribbon like a spam can, and you don't get the 'key' unless you order a crate. Does anyone have a good idea of how to open one of these? I don't see any area that a key would fit into, so it must separate the seams some how...

Yeah, I know. But I'm saving for a car, so have to watch what I spend. I wish I could do like some fellas I read about buying '6 cans' of this, or 'two crates' of that. Unfortunately I must be in a different tax bracket than some of these yokels. This ammo appears real clean tho', no sign of rust or anything. Should be perfect to feed the Ruskies.

Spaeter.

Chris.

That comment is way the heck off mark.

Besides my shooting and collecting hobby, I've also got a secret life as a husband/father/provider that I have to devote time and money to occasionally.

Get the point?

Not ment as an insult. I fill all the items you stated also. The fact is if there is enough desire people find a way to do the above and buy the ammo. I have for years (25 years married/raised 2 stepdaughters and raising my own 16year old daughter/bought my house/provided for my family/etc/etc). Worked 2 jobs sometimes and then did side work for my gun fund when it did not HAVE to go for other bills. I also use to scuba dive quite a bit but gave that up to go to my daughters soccer/basketball/volleyball game in school and different out of school seasons. Did this gladly. My family has always come first and that was never a secret to anyone who has ever known me.
MY point is (was) do not think just because someone else gets a larger amount of ammo etc than you that they live on easy street. When you desire something enough you CAN make it happen. IF you do NOT desire it as much as the next guy that is also perfectly fine. We each make our own choices for our own reasons and that is the way it should be. If the other guy puts out the effort to get it do not put him down for it or use the excuse he has more money.
I was not putting you down in any way.......just making a point. Do you understand me now?? It was never ment to be a flame or put down ....just a point of view.

One more thing I might have an extra can-opener tool around here that I had not thrown out and if you would like I would send it to you............no charge.

Re: How does one open a can of Hungarian 7.62x54R?

Thanks for clearing that up, I felt like I was being flamed. The fact is I spend a great deal of money on my hobby, I buy what I can afford. I do odd jobs to get extra money. Last year I wrote a software application for a lady who runs a day care and used the $300 to buy my first k98 Mauser. I've sold off things I've accumulated from other hobbies and converted them (guitars, guitar pedals, books) into military weapons and ammo. We've been in this house we're in for 5 years (compared to your 25), so aren't nearly as well established; place is a fixer upper so it consumes much of our income. I'm a software programmer and an auto cad operator, and I've put ads in local papers trying to find work in that line to do on the side to make ammo and gun money. Just not much demand for it in this area. I've said all that to illustrate that I'm willing to go the extra mile to get 'play money' to subsidize my hobby, but as my wife works late in the evenings, it's just me and my 10 yo at home, I'm fairly constrained in what I can do (hence my trying to get cad and programming work that I can tinker on at home). But you may be right, maybe I should more pro actively attempt to find odd jobs... or maybe I should just sell my old '72 F100 and convert it into ammo. It'd probably double in value in a year the way things are escalating

I never meant to flame. I try real hard not to do so on any forum and often will walk away instead of answering to let something die and not grow into something big and bad. Sometimes I am too blunt and it can sound like a flame. I know how it is sometimes.......and am in that spot myself right now. Take care and do not give up on collecting gun stuff. We need die-hard gun people in our sport

Re: How does one open a can of Hungarian 7.62x54R?

I think we all know what its like to be a bit short on cash and in need of something that we don't have the money for. I remember replacing my bologna skin tires with half worn tires from the junk yard! Now I'm retird and am always looking for the extra good deal on ammo or firearms. That special "emergency" money is kept in a separate account, just in case the deal of a lifetime walks by. (and it has; several times!) Just as divernhunter suggests, there is always a way. But sometime it just isn't easy to find it. I've had to "bite the bullet" a number of times myself.
