M5 bayonet M/62 HTK
 

Just picked up an M/62 HTK bayonet.

I know its danish, is it still correct to consider it and M5A1?

What kinda scabbard is it? a danish variant of the M8?

Ive also been looking at this, but it looks too new to be genuine. Are there any fakes out there?

It does have the M8A1 stamped on the scabbard, but Im not sure about. Would it be a safe buy?

It is a Danish made M5-A1 bayonet for the US M1 Garand rifle with a Danish M8 scabbard.

These haven't been faked, since there's no need to, there are plenty around, especially where you are.
Since they were never heavily used, I'd think most would be in good shape.

While these are not "genuine" US issue items, they ARE "genuine" Danish issue items for the M1 rifles you got from us.
Denmark simply copied the US M5 bayonet and M8 scabbard since making a copy was easier than designing a special bayonet and scabbard.

I'm not sure what these are worth there, but they are a valid historical military item.

Looks brand new. The seller also tells me Denmark never made M5 bayonets or M8 scabbards, but as you say, this aint true.

Again, it's hardly improbable that any number of bayonets were produced, along with sheaths, and were never issued. We can still buy the M8A1 sheath, along with M6 Bayonets, separate, and in the wrap. There's no reason why the same wouldn't be possible with the Danish M5A1 and M8 sheath. :D

Only, not as funny with unissued items, they dont have the same history.

We can't tell from the pictures. What are the markings on the bayonet and scabbard?

I have two of these Danish bayonets that are unissued. My local shop had three of them. I sold one to pay for the other two. My scabbards have a "faux=wood" texture to them.

Been wondering, but where can I find one of those EVIL WOMD?

I have an HTK and an HMAK marked danish bayo, all scabbards were made in W germany under danish contract. I've seen M10 bayos with FKF mrkings. The german scabbards were the only ones to have the "wood" look to them

Left to right HTK M5A1, HMAK M5A1, US M10 U C marked in FKF M7 scabbard, and FKF M10 in HTK M7 scabbard. From what I've read, the US gave the Danes US bayos to get them started. I don't know if mine was actually used in Denmark, but I keep with them as an example. I don't know if the Danes marked any, the only markings I've been able to find on any I've seen have been the crown over the makers mark.

The Danish scabbards look different because they modeled their webgear after the British P37, so the hanger is made for that instead of the US style. My FKF scabbard looks like US fiberglass, but all the Danish scabbards were made by contract thru the Germans. They all have a wood grain look to them, and I've heard that they were wood, but they don't feel like it. My newest one is stamped Made in West Germany, but doesn't have that wood grain look to it.

Sorry if this is too late. The scabbard looks repro to me. Original M8 and M8A1 scabbards are made from fiberglass. The repros are plastic with a smooth or textured finish. Many people claim their repro scabbards are USGI. It is harder to tell if a bayonet is original. HTH.
