New rifle- pics included, scope mount question

OK so today I picked up another M1A - a brand new SA M1A, this time a Standard Loaded w/Walnut stock. Whole setup ran $1,600 flat. A fair price for a great rifle. My dad just retired and loved the M1A I posted about 2 weeks ago so much that talked me into selling it to him. I got this to replace it. I love the trigger on this loaded model. I'm sold on walnut too, so nice on these rifles.

One question - the lug/bolt for the SA scope mount on my 1981-era receiver does not fit this new rifle's scope mount port. Is this common? Should I look for a replacement bolt or should I re-tap the hole?

Thanks guys

Re: New rifle- pics included, scope mount question

Your older rifle had different receiver geometry. The USGI spec scope mounts don't fit the new receivers well but you can sometimes make them fit. FYI: The Springfield scope mounts are junk. The instructions for the Generation III mount included hitting the mount with a hammer to "meld" it to the receiver. Yeah, like I'm going to do that to my expensive rifles. Even if you install one it can easily losen up over time.

The HR-N trigger group is a USGI contract Harrington and Richardson subcontractor.

Thanks djl. I'll do some forum searching for recommended scope mounts (although i've heard good things about Sadlak).
