Yes, remove the butt plate and look for any stampings in the wood. Post the markings here.

Re: M14 Stocks

I have a birch M14 stock that has an "S", possibly a Boxed "S" under the buttplate. Would that be a Springfield stock?

Re: M14 Stocks

Here is some information that may be of help.

Known M14 wood stock makers:

O = S. C. Overton &Co. (made stocks for TRW)
SA = USGI Springfield Armory
H = Harrington & Richardson
S under a half-diamond = Sykes Manufacturing Co. (subcontractor to USGI Springfield Armory)
W-W = Winchester

I don't believe that all stock makers were required to mark the stock. If they did, bit would be under the butt plate.

Yours would be a stock made by Syles for Springfield.
