| Good Deal, Fair Deal, or Bad Deal
I have a chance to buy a 38k Springfield with TRW bolt, trigger assy & hammer, and an HRA oprod. NM stock that's glassbedded, NM front sight and peep. That's all I know right now. Asking 1200 for it. Good, Bad, or Fair price? Also, were M1A's in the 38k range eqipped with US parts as a matter of course? Were the earlier receivers forged or always cast? Thanks much, Confused in NC ![]() |

All SAI receiver are all cast but don't let that keep you down early SAI rifle have a higher USGI parts than the newer rifles. Sounds like a good solid price for a used N.M. rifle. However I would still give it a very good going over just in case.

Keep in mind there is a big difference between a glass bedded stock and a stock bedded to the action that's in it. In any case, barring something obviously not right, I'd only haggle a little bit, and be prepared to give him his asking price. I have a standard 16K, and the only time it was sent back on SAI's request was to have the SAI bolt replaced with a TRW, so you might look for that. QC was generally pretty good back then. I'd buy it myself if I were in your place.

Considering this was an 80's mfg gun...how many rounds are down the tube and how does the barrel look, receiver wear? etc. Also, what do you mean by a NM stock? Glass bedded GI? Is it a heavy Nm barrel? About 2 years back my bud picked up a heavy barreled NM for 1k, gun was like new, but that was then, this is now. Price is fair in my opinion if she's in good condition, and you might want to throw in a trip to the range with the owner if you're doing a private deal.... either way, keep us posted and good luck!! ![]() |

I have a 39,XXX M1A and has all USGI parts. Great rifle. I'd jump on that rifle, (even with a worn out barrel).

I shucked the 6-groove SAI barrel for a new 60s Winchester awhile back. Its a standard-weight, but if you buy the rifle and it needs it, I'll sell it to you reasonable. I'd give it away, but its only had a few hundred rounds through it, and I like having a spare.
