Demilled M14 Rear Receiver Halves Confiscation

A dealer at a local gunshow said to me (after I asked if he had any demilled M14 receivers) that the BATF was confiscating all demilled receivers because they were not properly cut in three. Most were cut in two by cutting or torch welding. He said this was going on since the MKS confiscation and it now applies to demilled not just the MKS rewelds. He said several dealers who advertized in SGN and elsewhere for the demilleds were visited by BATF and had to turn them over. Has anyone heard of this before?

A B.S. story! If you only have 1 piece of the receiver how can anyone tell - or prove - how many pieces it was cut into???
I not heard any requirement for cutting M14 receivers into 3 parts to begin with, But if there is such it would NOT apply to receivers cut BEFORE that requirement. The same as it does not apply to other MG receivers cut 20 or 30 years ago.

I think the issue here is about receivers that are cut in two and both pieces are in the control of the same person. Cutting in half is demilling per DOD standards, but does NOT meet BATF requirements.

I'm not sure I agree with you on this. The concept of what the ATF is working with is "readilly convertible" as mentioned in the legal description of a MG. i.e. How easily a receiver can be restored to working order. As technology has progressed, what used to be "scrap metal" can be more easily recovered.
