paulcap, WELCOME ABOARD. Also, IF you're not in a hurry, I can likely get you one cheap at the next SA show. -The last few shows there were LOTS of beech garand stocks & handguards. = Mostly PB made. Otherwise, J&G Gun Ranch has Italian beech. yours, sw |

paulcap, FYI, the last one that I bought at the SA show, I paid 8 bucks (if I remember correctly).- The weekend of the first of April i think is when the next show is. BTW, MINWAX in RED CHERRY color looks NICE to refinish the beech wood parts. - I remodeled my whole Danish armoury rebuilt Garand set with it. -the wood came out a very nice dark mahogany color with the grain showing up WELL. (without the MINWAX, the beech stock looked BLAH & UN-interesting.) yours, sw |

@sw...j&g was a no go...found a lady who had one for 60.00 including ship. Our recent gun shows out here have been ratcheting up prices, but just couldn't justify that price.. I'll jeep looking while being in a holding pattern to see what SA show may produce...very nice for your help....have a great weekend... PC |

paulcap, ODDLY there wasn'r a single "garand wood dealer" at the SA gunshow that I attended today and darned little else except a GREAT deal of tables piled high with mostly identical "black rifle" parts and NEW and grossly OVERPRICED rifles/shotguns/handguns. (for example, I saw a rather ordinary used S&W Model 10, 4-inch RB revolver with a "firm cash price" of 950.oo.) NOBODY seemed to be buying much of anything, except OVERPRICED ammo (like: 48.oo+ tax for fifty 9mm parabellum.) & not much of that being sold, from what I could see. (IF this goes on much longer, there won't be shows here, as vendors cannot afford 50.oo tables if hardly anyone is buying much of anything AND nobody will pay 8.oo for seeing tables & tables of not much of anything INTERESTING. - BTW, I saw a total of 5 garands & they were all 900.oo or more. ) FYI, I collect drillings & "cape guns", usually with hammers. - Saw NONE of either & usually there would be several to choose from and even some double-rifles of various sorts. =====> at the last SA show, I "bid upon" (but didn't get) a cape rifle that was 9.3x74 on the R with a L barrel in 12gax3"case. (BTW, I'm planning a 2015 trip to southern Africa to hunt plains game and am therefore seeking a heavy-caliber rifle. -Probably a .375H&H Mag or more likely something like a 9.3x62mm or 9.3x74mm rifle. - Saw nothing heavier than a .300WIN MAG today.) I'd like to find a 1920's vintage Commercial Mauser based "Africa rifle" that weighs at least 9 pounds. Meanwhile, I'll keep looking for your upper beech handguard. yours, sw |
