Got my first M1 (3.7 million, May '45 prod) from the DCM back in ' 83 when you were allowed one per lifetime. It was the usual mix-master of parts. In the late '80's I was working part-time in a gun store when Blue Sky's were being imported. Every week when the new shipment of Blue Sky's came in I'd go through them and parts-swap to make mine as correct as I possibly could. The boss didn't care as long as he had complete rifles to sell. I eventually got it all correct. Found a SA 2-45 bbl in excellent condition and had it installed. Bought a SA/NFR stock at Sherwood International in L.A. (paid a whopping $19.95 for it in about '84 or 5). Bottom line is that that rifle is a "Correct Grade" even the -9 straight-side uncut op rod (thank you, Blue Sky) and lock-bar sight. I built up a nice IP carbine the same way........it just took longer.
Anyway, a little over a year ago I traded that M1 for an all original 9-42 SA (815xxx, no-chrome gas port, white chamber, uncut-3 op rod, checkered elev knob, SA/EMcF stock, etc., etc.) from a friend. The guys neighbor was going to buy it and he didn't care which one it was as long as he had one to sell. Long story short, the neighbor reneged on the deal and he asked me if I wanted to buy it back. For $700. Of course I had to think on that one (for about that long).
Sure feels good to have the ol' gal back home in HER spot in the safe. I honestly thought I'd never ever see her again, let alone HAVE her again.
So whadda' all think? I done good, or what? A "Correct Grade" for $700? (Hee, Hee) Can't do that good from the CMP.

Jon,

Fantastic fairy tale ending.

I have a couple that I wish could end that way myself.
