Op Rod Spring

I recently replaced my original op rod spring with a new Orion 7 spring. What is the "average life span" of a new op rod spring? 5,000 rounds, 10,000 rounds, 1500 rounds, etc., etc?
Thanks
Jon

Re: Op Rod Spring

I once heard 3000 rounds, but I wouldn't bet anything on that. What I would bet on is that the steel in your new Orion 7 spring is better than the steel they used in the 1940's.

Re: Op Rod Spring

I have rifles that look like they've had five thousand or more cycles with the same spring . Other than looks , they work as well as a new spring . The first Garand I bought in the mid eighties has a op rod spring that was broke into thirteen pieces yet the rifle still functioned just fine .

I think as long as the bolt is not going backwad to fast and hammering the action the spring is doing it's jod . How many rounds ? I really don't know .

Re: Op Rod Spring

Op Rod springs are cheap, after several thosands of rds pull it, inspect for kinks and measure length. If it isnt up to spec replace it. No need to put undo stress on a reciever because of a $8.00 spring
