Re: Garand Parts

I have never seen a gas plug with an X. If it is a cross (a plus sign) it is made by Industrial Tool and Die Co. Post some pics and you will probably get some answers on the other parts.

Re: Garand Parts

The P just indicates it is a "Poppet" type gas plug. It was stamped on all poppet type plugs until some time in 1952, at which point it was deleted. I have no idea who made one with the X. The manufacturers of some parts like butt plates and gas tubes are difficult to determine without pics. Some of the indicators are subtle. A lot of people expect for instance that all SA butt plates will be exactly the same, and all HRA gas tubes will be the same, but I have not found this to be the case. I know of 3 different WRA butt plates, all similar but all with subtle differences, and all marked 2S. Gas tubes are probably the hardest to identify except for WRA which has the unfinished round rear ring. If there is a letter or number stamped on the bayonet lug or on the rear ring flat it is most likely WWII SA since they were the only company to mark them in this way.
