Powder Compatibility

Are IMR 4320 and IMR 4350 compatible in the M1 Garand? A friend of mine gave me a couple of pounds of both of these and I don't want to harm my M1 with them.

Re: Powder Compatibility

The 4320 should be okay but the 4350 is a bit slow. My service load chart does not show any loads for 4320 and only one for 4350. Got any other guns you can use it in?

Re: Powder Compatibility

IMR-4320 has long been considered to be the slowest IMR powder that is still suitable for the M1/M1A rifles.

Some older reloading manuals (notably the Speer # showed some pretty stout .30/06 loads with IMR4320 - I've fired lots of these with no problems out of my M70, but if I were loading for one of my M1s, I'd stick to loads on a par with USGI ballistics.
