op rod tab undersize

The tab on my "new" op rod is out-of-spec. It measures .305 high, .252 wide and only .082 thick. Is this a candidate for jumping the rail, so to speak?
TIA

Yes.

Nominal height is .320", with the minimum dimension .317".
Nominal thickness is .100", with the minimum dimension .095".

Smaller than that, and they can jump.

Re: op rod tab undersize

You are fine. Specs for a NEW tab are 0.095" - 0.10". I've used them down to 0.07" thick, with no problems.

The M1 Garand op rod does not dismount as easily as the M14/M1A op rod. You should have a spare in any case. If the rod does dismount during firing, just replace it and have the old tab reworked.

It's not so much the thickness but the height is critical. At .305 it'll be jumping like a cottontail. I've had them jump(Dismount) constantly at .315. the height of the tab is what keeps it n the track.

I build up the tab with a MIG welder and work them back down to fit.

So far this has worked just fine.

You are correct. I overlooked the height he had. Both thin and short are not cool...
