Good question

I think there will be a follow-on shipment of Garands. But do not expect anynews from the CMP officials. They do not like publicity. The blab about this shipment was huge and it could only benefit the CMP-haters. So mum is the word. (Cross your fingers, too)

Several thousand Dane return Garands will be coming up. In all the hubbub over the carbines folks kind of forgot. I can't recall exactly when they're supposed to come up but it should be this spring.

All I know is I'm putting in a lot of overtime from now on just so I can afford to buy a carbine in march. I now have car payments. Saginaws were made by GM right? I hope whatever I get has an M2 stock so it can be bump-fired. I already have my accurate carbine, so this next one...I'm gonna beat the crap out of it. lol. Well, depending how awesome it is.

M2 Stock , bump fire, man that ain't right. Do that with some junk surplus not the carbine. Anyway don't think a M2 stock has anything to do with bump firing.

M2 (pot belly) stocks are made to handle full auto firing. the original stocks weren't. It doesn't make it bump any better, it just won't crack. I have a high wood stock on my inland no chance I'm gonna even think about bumping that. If I can get a CMP shot out junker, different story all together. But if its awesome and/or doesn't have an M2 stock, I won't. Though @ current ammo prices, bump firing may be an exercise of wasted money. still fun though.

I don't really see how the talk about carbine sales on gun forums benefits CMP-haters. The more guns sold by CMP, the stronger the organization is, financially.
And if the haters are lurking on gun forums, they already know about CMP, and are presumably lurking there, too.
Screw 'em.

I agree. I think the advance notice from the CMP was perfectly reasonable, and I haven't heard anything about them being forced to announce the pending sale of the M1 Carbines because info was about to leak (or had already leaked). The CMP knows that the folks who enjoy owning and shooting these pieces of history come from all walks of life and income levels, and that many folks will need the advance warning to start saving up some extra money.

(And then there are some of us -- like me -- who need the advance warning so I can wait for the perfect time to *announce* to my wife that I'm going to be getting another gun from the CMP!)

A two to three month "heads up" seems about right to me.

how can anyone hate the CMP?! That's like saying "I hate coupons, I wanna pay FULL PRICE!" you'd have to be an idiot.

I don't think the talk hurts or helps the CMP, but they gave advance notice sooner than they wanted to because of all the rumors flying around, not to give you or I time to count our pennies.

Orest did announce about the carbines prematurely because all of the rumors that were flying around. You have to remember, they have a buissness to run. When rumors get to flying on all the furoms , then they get flooded with extra phone calls and e-mails. Then the whole operation slows down. Then you have the same old questions asked over and over again of the CMP forum. How much are the carbines going to be? What makes? Any slings? Any ammo? And at the time CMP hadn't even started to inspect the carbines yet! Thats some of the reasons they didn't want to release the info yet.

Dex, I have two M2 stocks, neither is a 'Potbelly'. Both are lowwall, both have the selector cutout at the receiver front and are channelled for the lever.

Wise decision on your stock. From what I understand high-walls are hard to find.

yeah, my high wood stock was cracked by the mag well. I suspect it was bump fired, and cracked. It took some sanding, and gluing but now its sound again. That crack saved me some money though, because they couldn't charge an arm and a leg. $400. My first (and currently only) carbine.

As it sits now though, unless I can raise some loot, I may not be able to part take in the carbine buying. that could change when I get my W4, sell my old car, and stack amp. I don't really want to sell my Ruger Blackhawk but I can if I have to. though first thing is bills. second thing is toys. lol.

Cap'n,
I wouldn't sell anything that will be hard to replace. If indeed, the CMP has 32,000 carbines, I don't think there will be any need to rush. Orest himself, has said that there is a one to two year supply. If I recall, there were only 45,000 Greek M1's that came to the CMP and they are still selling them 2 1/2 years later. My brother and I figure on at least giving the north store a week to cool down after the carbines first get there, before we are going to brave the crowds.

The greek rifles were suplemented with more desirable USGI (they were all USGI at one point) and dane rifles, though. Most guys still don't like the greeks, but order them anyway, because they're better than nothing. I'll order one, but I only plan on buying one. If it gets to where I have some extra cash later on down the line, and they still have em, I'll buy another. But I'm workin ALOT of overtime to pay my bills, and have a little extra for a carbine. But only if they're a deal, like $400-$500. If its over that, they're no longer a deal, and then I have extra money for something I do need, and not just want. haha. This new car has turned me into a tightwad. Thanks for the tip, though.

So, I see that CMP is starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel for the Garand. (I don't have a real Garand, just one of those CAI rebuilds and didn't know about CMP when I bought it! )

What the stats on the Danish shipment about the time of the Italian Carbines? Or any shipment of Garands?

Enjoy!
