BM59 in 30-06?

Has anyone ever attempted a BM59 type conversion in 30-06? Maybe using a BAR magazine? Is it possable to do?

How about an M14 mag?

But only for 7.62, I guess.

BAR mag in M1

I just finished putting a BAR mag in an M1. It was a project I wanted to try on a very rust pitted reciever I had. I removed the front legs and opened the inside simlar to the M14. The mag is also modified to look a lot like the M14 on top. I made a latch at the front to look like John Grand's first BAR mag conversion. It doesn't function perfect mostly due to the front mag latch letting the mag move under recoil but I'm still working on that part. It was a fun project and looks pretty cool. TORQUE

I built one a year ago using a BAR mag. I left the legs intact, and latched the mag in the rear in a second notch below the original one in the magazine.

Frank,
That is one kool Garand. How does it work, was it difficult to do? What all did you have to do to the BAR mag to get it to feed? Did you use BM-59 parts of fabricate your own?

It was mainly a matter of getting the ambition to do it and basically figure out what had to be done to make the mag fit, and the rifle function. I modified standard M1 parts, such as the clip latch, which I welded a woodruff key to and reshaped to act as a bolt stop.

In the same way I looked at how the mag was retained in the BAR and using the catch from a BAR and adapted it to the M1 trigger housing. With the mag I added the second notch below the original to retain it and trimmed the top front portion of the mag body, until I got consistent feeding.

Very interesting, Frank. I would be interested in doing one myself. Could you possibly post some detailed pics of the various parts that had to be modified?
