Stock cleaning trick

Found a new way of cleaning years of gunk from a stock today, HIGH pressure steam. Three times as fast and Twice as good as the dishwasher!

Guess I'll be doing all mine with the steam cleaner at work from now on.

just becarefull not to inject too much water into the stock as it can cause it to swell and raise the grain and the degreaser we use is hard on the finish so make sure to wipe it down with some BLO afterwards to protect it

Get the pressure too high and you'll cut the wood.

what I did was a light spray with the steam to take off the stain that was used, then I wet sanded with 150 grit. The wet sanding didn't hurt the cartouche's to bad. Last night I rubbed in two coats of BLO, real looker now.

Wanna Glass like finish? Keep sanding using higher counts until you reach 2000 grit. I "wet sand" but dont use water; I use a decreasing amount of miniral spirits/to/BLO until I end with the last two sandings & coats with 100% BLO. Quite a smooth and classy finish...if you like it that way; I know some dont....
