CMP

What forms are needed to be filled out prior to getting to the CMP to make things go quicker and easier for a first timer? Second, waht do I need to look for when chosing a GOOD rack or field grade Garand? It will be a shooter.

If you have never purchased from CMP before, you will need proof of US Citizenship, as well as proof of shooting activity, and membership in a CMP affiliated club. The specifics are detailed on the CMP website. They have the forms there at the store to fill out, and a notary on site to take care of the signature issue. If you have ANY questions, call ahead and ask, so there are no unexpected problems.

As for a shooter... I would look for a good barrel w/ a low TE and MW reading. If you look hard enough you will find one in the field grade section. While nice wood is always a plus, remember replacement stocks are cheaper than barrels, so barrel condition first. Check the rear sight assembly for tightness. Run the elevation all the way up, then try to push down on the rear sight apperature with your thumb. If it doesn't hold, there may be problems w/ the sight, so keep on looking. Since you are new to the selection process... ask for PEE WEE or George if you go to the North Store. They will steer you right...

Good luck...

The forms you mentioned, are they the ones that are on the website? The order forms?

If so, do I fill them out and take with me to the South Store?

If I have problems, who is bets to speak to at the South Store?

if the south store is anything like the north store, which I'm betting it is.... they will have all the forms and will fill out all the forms right there for you, that is their job so let them do it........

only thing you need to bring is proof of citizenship, ie birth cert., DL, the shooting requirement paperwork or one of the many waivers, and proof you belong to a CMP affliated club.

as for what to look for in a garand.......BARREL, BARREL, BARREL......a muzzle wear of 3 or under. a pretty garand, with a muzzle wear of 5 and up will just be a good looking rifle, that will shoot like shit
