Hammer Spring install

How in the ()*_)*(()&*&(*(*(&*^(&^(&&**&)(_)(_++ do you install a Hammer Spring. Gave it a go several times using hemostats and Allen wrenches in the eye of the strut. Spring finally launched and is somewhere in my shop????

Bought some more springs ( I am not going to look for the spring anymore). Anyone have a good "unique" method to install these. The GI manual says to seat the spring in the trigger housing from the right side of the Hammer. Then using a "SUITABLE TOOL" they site a punch, install the strut and spring.

Is there a special tool out there to do this????

Thanks, Magnafique

What weapon are we talking about here? A 1911A1 has the hammerspring retained in the housing by a flat head pin. You put the punch in the vise to hold it pointed out and parallel to the ground, place the 3 piece hammer spring assembly in the housing. With the inside face of the hammer spring housing facing up so you can see the retaining pin, use the fixed punch to push down the spring assembly until the top clears the retaining pin hole, insert headed pin to retain. then place the hammer in position in the frame hammer DOWN, insert the grip safety and pin, insert the guide rails on the hammer spring housing into the slots in the frame juggle the gun a little bit to center the hammer strut in the hole, press upward until flush, insert retaining pin in bottom of from, tap home with soft hammer to engage retainer, which is the bottom part of the hammer spring assembly.
AND BOBs YER UNCLE! It's in like Flynn!

Magnafigue, the recoil spring guide rod can be used as a installment tool on the hammer spring, there's a hole in the hammerspring guide (IIRC) and the guiderod fits through it.

Skeptic49 .... this IS in the M1 carbine section ....;) although I hate having to point it out ....

Tommy's right. Stick the recoil spring guide through the hole, compress the spring with the spring right next to the hammer, and then just pivot it over into place.

Hammer Spring install

Well, I finally got it done using the slide spring guide as you suggested. I bought an NPM trigger so get to do it again but now should be a piece of cake.

Thanks all, Magnafique
