Local gunshow Carbines

Local gunshow here in Bakersfield, CA was this weekend. I got there late Sunday afternoon. Absoluletly nothing I couldn't live without.
Sticker shock on some M1 Carbines. One Carbine that the seller claimed was an all correct, all original Saginaw Gear was marked at $3700.
Another seller had 5 Carbines all in the $1200 range. Yet, 2 tables away there were Carbines in the $800 range.

Collecting is turning out to be way too rich for my blood.

Re: Local gunshow Carbines

Sailorman, try CMP instead of gunshows. Much more realistic pricing. $3700? Better have documents showing that Patton wipes his arse with it, or have one of those XM Space Modulator scopes, or something they only made 2 of.

Last time I checked CMP's site for carbines, they still had Inlands, Saginaws, IBMs, Underwoods, etc in Rack Grade Condition for $479. Looks like all the Service Grades are gone now, which may be driving the gunshow pricing thru the roof. If I wasn't remodeling right now getting ready for a baby that's coming in January I'd love to order another to go with my '44 NPM.

$3700, huh? Maybe in 20 yrs it'll be worth that. That's the thing about gun shows, alot of venders seem to think their stock is made of solid gold, or something. Reality is, alot of it is just crap they can't sell in their shops, so they jack up the price, and take it to the show.

Must be regional, I went to the OGCA show and ended up trading an extra Supermatic for a SG NPM carbine and $100.00.

Re: Local gunshow Carbines

I have a number of carbines that would sell in that price range, but they are some of the rarest. A standard Saginaw, even in all original condition, as manufactured MIGHT get that high, if it were in absolutely mint condition with documentation. But I don't think there are many of those floating around.

Jim, I sold an Inland Blue-Sky and three thirty-round mags three months ago on consignment at a local gunstore. I ended up with a little over $830.00. Of course, it was in very good SG condition.

Re: Local gunshow Carbines

In my opinion, you got a good price. Most would go for around $700-$750. It is an exceptional carbine that goes for over $1000. I'm a collector of the upper end carbines. My most "common" are the as manufacture Inland M1A1, Spring tube Inland and the UN-QUALITY. That should give you an idea of just how scarce the rest of them are. I sold my IP because it just didn't fit with the rest of the collection. They are just too common, around 32,000 manufactured by Saginaw S'G'. (Yeah, some folks think they are the "holy Grail".)

Re: Local gunshow Carbines

An Inland M1A1 is my next conquest Jim, If I don't buy the IBM I saw the other day, had a newish Winchester barrel on it and all the late mods. They want $800.00.

The National Postal Meter I mentioned before is pretty nice.ME is about 1.5 on it with my Stoneax. It's pretty-much correct except for the type 3 band, the Milled adj. rear and the M2 Catch. Oh, and the stock looks like Birch. Having a hard time making out the stamp inside the slingwell. It's a potbelly M2. It's from the fourth run, SN is 40902xx

Re: Local gunshow Carbines

Real M1A1s tend to be pretty pricey. Ask a lot of questions first then go looking. Its a good idea to know what you are looking at before shopping for one of those things.
