Carbine holster

Here's an M1 Carbine holster. It's a repro of course. I did not know there was such a thing. I wonder what the originals are worth.

Well, being old school, I would say cross draw. However, showing up to a quick draw contest with a carbine in that holster probably wouldn't be too swift on my part.

Quick Draw McJitters.

Never seen nor heard of anything like that in 30 some years. Who would want 6 or so pounds hanging off their pants? The mag pouches don't belong on the stock either.

It was actually designed for use by telephone linemen. It made it possible to carry their arms while climbing poles to repair the wires. If somebody shot at them they could at least return the favor. I doubt that many were issued and I also doubt that they were very popular. I do have an original. There are some differences, but the repops are well made.

They were originally designed for general issue. I have a picture of an ammo bearer of the 2.36 rocket launcher wearing one.

The way the thinking went many carbines would be issued to troops to replace the 1911A1 pistol. Well they designed a holster. It did not work out well and most were never issued.

If I recall there were 4 different companies that made them and every one I have had, and have seen over the last 30 years has been unused MINT. That is why I suspect they were not issued very much.
