LH Gun Company ammo

I just picked up a box of 30 carbine ammo made by the L.H. Gun Company of San Antonio, Texas. Has anyone heard of the quality of this ammo. All I know of this company is they have in the past (or possibly still do) modify Garands to accept various ammo types. Any feedback would be appreciated. The dealer told me that supply is spotty and had not recieved any feedback either positive or negative. At 12.99 for a box of 50 the price seems OK.

OK, maybe I can jog some memories. Here's a pic. Look familiar to anyone.

LOL. I don't know TommyGunn. It looks old thats for sure. It's got my curiosity up, I can tell you that. Some of the old timers here (Sorry Bolo ) must have run across this at some point. One of my first thoughts were that it could be old LC repackaged. I dunno. Notice no zip code in the address, no barcodes on the box.

AFAIK, LH Gun Co. was the company Elmer Balance started when he was in the AF, living in Lackland AFB housing in San Antonio. The LH in the name stands for Lackland Housing, supposedly.

LH Gun Co, later renamed to Springfield Armory, made the M1A. Mr. Balance is known as the "father" of the M1A. He's still kicking, if you wanted to ask him about the ammo you could call him. Ask in the M14 forum for contact info, someone will hook you up.

Thanx Q. The new SA started in 1974 so the ammo probably dates back to then at least. Good enough for me. That would explain why they had only one box and why no barcodes.

Mr J,

I did a lot of searches but came up dry. Likely someone elses ammo, repackaged. Sounds like a good price.

Send me a box and I'll let you know

Cheers,

Dillo

Not to get off the topic here, but I can swear that when i was doing an inventory of my deceased boss's guns in his safe for his wife there was a 45 ACP pistol with a LH Gun Co. stamped on the frame, and if I recall it was an alloy frame? Might have been marked Lightweight?,been over 10 years so excuse the memory lapse, don't recall the slide markings, want to say it was GI? Should add this was from Valley Ordnance that made the M1A receivers for Elmer,so my boss had close contact with him...any input on these? Haven't seen his wife in 10+ years, wonder whatever happened to Mel's collection....there was some one of a kind stuff there
