M2 stockset

Guys, just picked up an Inland M2 stock with a matching hanguard and cartouche in excellent shape for only 10 bucks. When I fit a receiver/barrel/TG it fits loosly against the recoil plate. My question is what is the prefered method of adjustment of the recoil plate for proper fit. Also what is the proper way to clean the stockset from years of grime. I have heard of putting them in the dishwasher but trust me that will not go over well with the first-in-command

I use either Fast Orange or Go-Jo hand cleaner. But only the kind without the pumice. I spread it on thickly and allow it to set for 15 minutes max. Then i GIVE THE STOCK A FAST HOT WATER RINSE TO REMOVE THE CLEANER. Don't soak the stock in the hot water. If you do, you will lose the cartouches. Allow it to dry slowly overnight. Then apply your oils, or retreat any areas that need additional degreasing following the same procedures. If you are going to steam out dents, do it after the cleaning, but before applying you oil. It will be most weffective at that stage.

I would try some very small wooden wedges behind the recoil plate to shift the angle very slightly. When you find the right angle (no pun intended) glue the wedge in place.
