Carbine ammo ID ?

I just found a can with a few hundred loose rounds of carbine ammo that I had forgot having, I must have had this for 30 years or longer. In it was maybe 300 rounds of LC 52.,,100 or so Winchester WCC 54,,, and maybe 100 PC 43. What company was coded PC? I have been reading that China rogued some fake LC 52 into the country some years ago. Is there a way to tell the real from the fake LC 52? Believe it or not but I fired clip of the PC 43 in the back yard a while ago and it fired like it was made yesterday.

I believe WCC is Western Cartridge Company. LC is Lake City, which is Lake City Arsenal. PC is Kings Mills Ordnance Plant (Peters Company) according to Craig Riesch's book U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production.

All of the Chinese ammo was a copy of the LC 52 and was stamped as such---nothing else other than LC 52. The first 'tip off' is the cheapness/flimsiness of the box that they are packed in----not strong and "well constructed/well packed" like USGI ammo. The other thing you will note is that on the cartridge headstamp, the LC and 52 markings are slightly different and a bit "off kilter" from USGI ammo.

For many years, the story going around was that the Chinese .30 Carbine ammo was made for all the Carbines the Chinese/Vietnamese seized from the French when they surrendered at Dien Bien Phu----I suspect that that is outright speculation, though.

As an aside, the only other corrosive .30 Carbine ammo I've ever encountered is of French manufacture----be careful of those, as well.

When in doubt. pull a bullet and dump the power. I believe the Chinese ammo was berdan primed. The US ammo is boxer primed.

Just check out the pics that Cryto references, as posted above. Look at the shape(s) of the "C" and of the "5", comparing the USGI and the CHICOM ammo----they are obviously different.
