| Need Help with a Couple of Inlands
I have a couple of Inlands, and I'm hoping someone can help me with the dates of manufacture: One has a barrel dated 6-44 and a serial number of 5,755,xxx. The other has a barrel date of 7-43 and a serial numbef of 5,000,xxx. Thanks in advance, guys. |

First off, 5,755,XXX is a Winchester serial number, delivered about November 1944, and the 5,000,XXX Inland about June 1944. If the first is really 755,XXX, then it is an Inland and was delivered about October 1943. ![]() |

The 7-43 barrel is way too early for that receiver. I bet you have mixed up the barrel dates. Otherwise, the 7-43 barrel is probably a replacement. The barrel on a 5.0 mil should be 1-44 to 5-44.

I guess I need new glasses. The Inland with a barrel date of 6-44 is numbered 6,755xxx. The gun with a barrel date of 7-43 has a six digit number, 500,xxx, NOT 5,000xxx. Sorry for the screw up. Thanks.

Happens to all of us eventually, which is why I use magnifiers now! 6,755,XXX would have been delivered about April/May 1945 so that barrel is pretty early for it. The 500XXX would have been July/August 1943. ![]() |

Thanks, Wayne. While we're on the topic, do you know whether the 500xxx was originally blued or parked? (I'm thinking about an "Extreme Makeover.) Thanks.

I'm pretty certain that they were all being parked at that time.

I just saw a 900,000 Inland that was blued, so our range of 200,000-300,000 may be too restricted. Doesn't look like they used it much, but they DID ship some with that funny two-tone bluing. ![]() |
