I took my IBM out this past Tuesday with some Wolf and S&B...

results:
The S&B was dead center (I used the S&B the last time I sighted in my IBM). However, I had some failure to extracts... maybe 1 every 10 rounds out of 40-50 fired? odd?

The Wolf was high to the right, suppose that would be about 2 o'clock, but consistent. Not as accurate as the S&B, but it was 100% reliable out of 50 rounds for that box. 100% reliability was AFTER I had problems with the S&B.

In general, I like Wolf rifle ammo (SKS,AR15) for plinking & I would buy it again for my M1 carbines, but I can not get the Wolf pistol ammo to work in my 1911 or 92SF... works great in the Mak though.

......and just to muddy the waters even more, my Armscor .45 hasn't had any problems with Wolf .45, and my Browning Hi-Power eats their 9mm like candy. It even likes the Russian 'Silver Bear' JHP, and my HP really has a problem with hollow point feeding.

But it is about the dirtiest ammo I've ever fired. Just teaches us to 'clean, clean, clean' after shooting.

I'm ordering some .30 Carbine from Sportsmans, so I'll see how my M1's like the new fodder.

Are you saying there was steel-cased USGI .30 carbine ammo? I don't believe I've ever heard of that before.

I know there was steel-case .45--I even have a box around here somewhere--but the 1911 has a controlled-feed extractor, not the push-feed of a carbine.

Interesting.

yes, there was steel cased carbine ammo. It was made into the early 50s. I have a few boxes and the latest date one is early 53.

Please identify the manufacturer(s) and provide any other data on the cartridges, packaging, etc. Inquiring minds want to know!

The box I'm looking at right now is marked...

50 Cartridges
Carbine, Ciliber .30 M1
Steel Case Ammunition
Ammunition lot E.C. -S25675
Evansville Ordnance Plant

This batch is headstamped EC43

AFAIK, steel case was made only at the Evansville plant, but I could be wrong on that. The other boxes are deeply buried and it wouldn't be easy to dig them out.

Very interesting! I don't think I've ever heard of steel carbine ammo before.

I´ve fired already 150 rounds of Wolf´s .45ACP in my GI Remington
Rand 1911A1 without any trouble at all. Accuracy was as good as with any other FMJ ammo and the gun cycled flawlessly all the time.
