Spotting Scope Lens Caps needed

By any chance does anyone know a source of lens caps for Bushnell Spacemaster and Spacemaster II spotting scopes? These are excellent scopes as I have about four of them and a couple do not have caps.

Yeah I know, what do I need four spotting scopes for? Truth is I have ten of them or is it eleven??? I am a sucker for the fine scopes made in the 50s and 60s by Bausch & Lomb, Bushnell and Tasco.

60MM Objectives is primarily what I have but also have a 50MM objective that needs covers.

I have several Bushnell spotting scopes that are excellent but it seems folks have a bad habit of losing the lens caps. Then again some of them came with bakelite caps and they don't react well to sudden impacts and shatter rather easily.

I have made rear covers on my lathe from solid steel stock (1 3/8") and it takes about three hours. Front caps will really be a trick, for one thing just getting the stock (3" diameter) is a real joy as well. I suspect it will take several hours to make a front cap as well.

It seems some enterprising individual with access to a CNC lathe and a good program person could run a bunch of them and sell them at reasonable prices.

I have talked to Bushnell parts in Kansas and I have yet to find anyone there with a clue as to what I need. They want me to send scope in and they will go through parts they inherited to see if they have anything that will fit.

So if anyone has a source with CNC we have a problem in need of a solution.

Re: Spotting Scope Lens Caps needed

Hummer,
I have an old Spacemaster that came out of the AMU years ago. I was never able to find caps either. I resorted to a lined canvas scope cover that I bought at Camp Perry about 1987 or so. It served me well through 10+ years of SR comp. I still use it as a spotter for range sessions. I've seen several similar SMs through the years and none had there caps. I would be interested if you find someone who would produce some.

Re: Spotting Scope Lens Caps needed

Tailgunner,
Yeah, I don't know what it is but folks lose them or break them like there is no end to them being replaced.
I have made steel caps for my B&L and Bushnell No 5 45 deg scopes and they are a real pain. Takes about three hours on a lathe and the thread is a
1 3/8"X24 TPI no less. The tap for it runs like 80.00 bucks.
No one is willing to pay for three hours labor for a steel or aluminum cap to have one made but if somehad had a CNC tape made they could be made in a hurry.
I saw some ex Israeli Balscope Seniors for sale and they had lanyards on both covers with holes drilled in them and tied to the scope so covers wouldn't get lost. The B&L rear caps broke very easily and didn't take much of hit to do it either.

Maybe somebody will feel sorry for us and run a tape.
