csmkersh, is this about a past failed leftist career as an Actress or the future career of an aspiring knife maker that has yet to make it as a Master-smith? I'm one of those that (Like the Yiddish) don't consider price to be indicative of quality. Ping made golf-clubs at a manufacturing cost of pennies on the dollar and charged prices ten times higher than Artisan's crafting actual performance implements, yet those that where incapable of wielding the Artisan's tools sought out Karsten's Golf implements. Are you advocating purchasing her implements? Or are you advocating the social response of a life directed in a positive manner? How many of Her creations repose within your collection? Just a what you have done vice what you did conversation? |

Have you made it to Master Smith? Chelsea Miller may charge a bunch for her knives but she seems sell enough to get by. Oh, I don't make any claim she's in the same class as J W Randall, not many are.

Gee, I thought it was a great human-interest story about a young woman --who was apparently raised to work hard and do what she wants -- who now has a seven-month waiting list for her work. I'll have to go back and watch it again since I missed the part where she failed or is/was a leftist.

Interesting video Top. It's always refreshing to see someone carve (pun intended) a niche for themselves in a market and prosper using the old-fashioned values of craftsmanship, ingenuity, and hard work. I'm kind of looking for something besides shooting to keep me occupied during retirement and stories like this are encouraging. I guess a skill would help. |

Sam posted a video with a story about a knife maker. You extrapolated all of that...and then asked if Sam was endorsing...That's a HUGE freaking leap. You don't like her story, you don't like her knives...that's the joy of capitalism; you don't have to buy them. | |

Walt: A retired squid sent it to me. His also a journalist. For some that might be 2 strikes against him. ![]() Forged in Fire is a weekly TV series where 4 smiths first compete to get to final round of two smiths to win $10K dollars. Always starts with some sort of knife forged from weird metal sources and final round the last to must forge an antique edged weapon of some sort. Some of the smiths are amateurs and some are professional blade makers. http://www.history.com/shows/forged-in-fire |

When I was stuck in the Hospital with limited TV access, I watched a lot of History Channel, this show left me seriously underwhelmed. Geoff Who notes the proper tools and materials for the job is critical. |

It does appear that the young lady is making a go of her business. As far as being a “failed actress” goes, from what I understand the majority of people who attempt to make a living in that profession don’t exactly succeed. Or maybe she just told Harvey Weinstein to get bent. As for “Forged in Fire”, I’ll admit that it’s formulaic (reminds me of the cooking shows on Food Network), but as a guy whose shop teacher once looked over one of his projects and said, “Kelly, you oughta be a butcher,” I am really fascinated watching folks who can take a hunk of raw steel turn into a beautiful and functional blade. |
