IrishCop,

A "surprisingly aggressive Chocolate Lab" ====> That sounds like an oxymoron, if I ever heard one.
(Like "military intelligence".)

Yeah, she surprises me! Docile as she can be around family. Let a stranger come around and she thinks she's a Hound of the Baskerville's.

Never has bitten anyone (thank God!), but she's growling, baring teeth and the fur on her back is standing up.

I got this aversion to lawsuits...

I've got kind of a reverse problem with my Husky \ Aussie mix, Jack.

He'll let you in the yard, he just won't let you out...

WaltGraham,

Sounds like that your aussie/husky is a cousin to my old Maxamilla, who would let you in but NOT out. - Max was 125# of Rottweiler & HOSTILE. She bit any number of prowlers, who like to climb tall fences!

SW, your Max reminds me of the old joke...

Q. What has four legs and an arm?
A. A happy Rottweiler.

LOL

Diamondback,

Once upon a time, Sarah (One of my "sisters of the heart") & I had TWO Rotties: Maxamilla (125 pounds) & Tigger (@160 pounds)
(FYI, my then 4YO "adopted" niece named "Tigger".)

One afternoon some years ago, I was "walking the dogs" (OR were the dogs walking me?) & 2 young thugs were walking on the other side of the street.
One said to the other thugs, "Better NOT break into that dude's house. He got TWO baaaad dogs."
(From that comment, I would presume that one or both of the pair break into houses.)

NOTE: At that time, I had a sign on the back gate, with a snapshot of the two Rotties attached, that said, "We can make it to the back fence in 2 seconds flat. Can you?"

Gotcha, SW--they did good keeping you and yours safe, I was just trying to inject a little levity into things. I've known of some Rotts that fit the stereotype to a T, and yet others that were just overgrown puppies--as with all breeds, and with people, it really IS the individual.

Sadly, for me a dog isn't an option--no long-term neighbors to feed it when we're away, plus a deep-seated phobia (never really got over a Norwegian elkhound trying to rip my face off at 3YO; still have some of the scars three decades later).

Diamondback,

YEP. - My Max was "no pussycat" for sure.

FYI, the "baddest of the bad" that I ever had (Muffin has been chasing squirrels up & down the trail of stars for a long time now.) was (believe of not) a LHASA APSO, who played "YUM, YUM, EAT 'EM UP" with prowlers several times over her long life. - If they can trip you or cause you to fall, you "have a real problem".
Lhasas are long-haired terriers, were bred as Temple Guard Dogs in Tibet & many of them have the personality of a crocodile with teeth about as big. = They have a REALLY hard bite, for a dog that weighs about 20-25# & fear NOTHING.
(Lhasas are SUSPICIOUS of strangers, fierce in defense of home & family & I'm convinced that Muffin was a throwback to the days of temple guards.)

yours, sw
