Yeah, Tommy. We aren't exactly the highest tech Law Enforcement Agency in the state, but even we have push to talk phones for point to point comm that aren't picked up by scanners. And the patrol guys have PTT's and computers where they can message each other. So if we don't want to be heard (by anybody but the NSA I guess) we stay off the radio.

I imagine anybody conspiring to do GZ any harm would be at least that sophisticated.

A street demonstration that turns into a riot perhaps? A good reason to be somewhere the heck else and avoid trouble. I've never been a police frequency scanner user, but the way parts of Florida are going down hill (Gang Sign in a Bookstore Toilet, in an upscale suburb?) I may want to start.

I understand the police have moved to cell phones for better commo, but I assume the radio is still the best way to cover multiple officer operations, like crowd control and parade routes.

Again that does not make a murder, but it is worth noting for record. Too bad attempts to discuss that as an issue have been troubled by the race baiting and fracturing of people along pro and anti RKBA lines. The media may have done themselves and everyone else a huge disservice in doing that, which sadly is not that uncommon as behavior for them.
That's what I'm saying...

We switched to a "no repeater" frequency for high matrix deployments and tactical responses. Also most confidential information sharing. So unless you were close proximity to the broadcast and had frequency knowledge, you'd never be able to pick it up on scanners. Something's the public does not "need to know". It's called public trust...

Why George and probably the whole family is armed.........

Robert Zimmerman Jr. says his family at times receives around 400 death threats each minute since George Zimmerman was found not guilty on murder and manslaughter charges in the death of Trayvon Martin

Robert Zimmerman also told the story about nearly being attacked at a Starbucks when he was mistaken for his brother.

“Someone thought I was George Zimmerman. I said, no, George is in jail. They started saying, ‘we know you’re Zimmerman; it’s right here on the receipt’,” he recalled. “They pulled out their phones and started texting people and calling people. Someone finally noticed the receipt said Robert instead of George, or R instead of G, and they said ‘Oh, it’s not George Zimmerman’ and they all calmed down.”

And then someone allegedly said to him, “Yeah, but you look like that Mother f***er and if you were anyone of the Zimmerman’s we were going to take you outside and beat the sh*t out of you.”

Zimmerman said they were both Starbucks employees

The whole article Javlin linked is worth reading; the hyper-vigilance of the family for one another is sobering.

Yes it is. I think I might have reported that Starbucks nonsense to the police myself...I would certainly send a strongly worded letter to the Starbucks HQ regarding that.
I know there are crazies in the world but....really. STARBUCKS EMPLOYEES??

It appears the store manager needs some counseling/training.
