| What if you couldn' have a CCW "remuda"?
If you couldn't have a CCW remuda and were restricted to only one carry gun, what might you select? I'd probably go with either a Glock 19 or 26 9mm, probably the 26 because of its greater concealability. I might also consider a Ruger SR9c, which appeals to me because I like its manual safety feature, which would allow me to slip it into a pants or coat pocket sans holster if I needed to. What might you select as a one-and-only carry gun?

bestseller, i would NOT change a thing. = i'd keep right on carrying my Sig-Sauer P-6 in 9mm, 24/365. ======> i REALLY like that "chunky little fellow". = if i miss something with it, it's MY fault alone. (fyi, there was a great deal of "crying, whining, whimpering & gnashing of teeth", when the German government took the P-6 pistols away from the Kripo.) yours, sw |

You can do a lot worse than holster maker John Bianchi's "One gun, one holster, one carry" rule. This holds that if you're only carrying one gun in one holster, and you always carry it the same way, there'll be no fumbling if you suddenly need it. When you're constantly switching guns and holsters, you never really "learn" it and may be trying to draw and use the gun you were carrying yesterday. When you're only carrying one gun, in the same holster, you instinctively know "where and what". |

Change in carry is something I had trained out of me by a very odd path. At a very early point in my business life I had the great fortune to hire a true master carpenter. By his own admission he had all the skills but one to own and run a terrific company. He was the most skillful, elegant, and precise worker I have ever seen. His failing was paperwork. He hated it and it doomed him to always work for someone else. He taught me how to train yourself to eliminate wasted motion. I am a complete drunkard compared to him but I find myself unable to shake myself from his lessons. Nothing drove him to anger faster than a carpenter digging in his tool belt for something that should have been in one and only one spot, except for the pencil, of which you always had two I'n the precise spot on each side. To this day my toolbelt HAS to be set exactly as I was trained. Everything I'n it's spot and everything committed to muscle memory. Even without a tool belt my pants pockets are set up exactly the same way each and everyday. It drives me nuts when my son has to pat his pockets looking for his keys or pocket knife. I have worn the same holster now for seven years. Every day. The gun does rotate, except that for 19 years it's been a Colt Commander except for a short time I was trying a Government. I have more than one commander, all are basically the same, the only differences are cosmetic in a sense. Two are stainless, two are lightweights, three are Combat Commandrs. A recent addition is a Frankenstein of a recent 70 series stainless slide on a mid sixties LTWT frame. That one is not yet set up in my pattern. One stainless and one LTWT have crimson trace grips. All have the standard high profile Colt sights. All have medium solid aluminum triggers and narrow extended non ambi safeties as well as Ed Brown BT grip safeties. There are no FLGR's. It may seem silly to some to have multiples of the same pattern but I have always felt a back up duplicate was necessary. I don't like bright stainless but in the heat I sweat so bad that a blue gun will have dull spots in just one day. If someone had a treatment that would blacken or darken stainless permanently and could be touched up I would pay handsomely for that. Maybe someday. |

I carry a Colt GM in either .45 or .38 super. Both are exactly the same and I carry in a beltslide holster or a shoulder holster. So, that's two holsters and two guns both of which ae the same. BobMac |

it's all about "muscle memory" - when i joined , the 45 went on the RIGHT HIP- well, i'm left handed and they COULDN'T train that out of me- i'd end up drawing oneof my canteens most of the time

Because of the places I frequent and the clothing I wear in hot weather, my primary CCW is a Kal-Tec P3AT carry in my front pocket in pocket holster, 24/7, 365 days a year as it were. It does not print, even in jeans. That may be replaced by the new Ruger LC9, if it will carry well under the same conditions noted. It is just not possible to hide a 1911 with the clothing I want to wear. In passing, I do not feel under gunned with the Kal-Tec P3AT, shot placement being everything. More power though would be good, hence the consideration of the LC9. In colder weather, I can get away with carrying one of my full size 1911's in an inside the pants holster, left side carry, so I can cross draw from a seated position in my car or elsewhere with the right hand and left sweeping the clothing aside. |

could you tell us why the limitation? if it's money, then isn't the $2000 1911 left out? why would it be simply numbers of guns? I think that it's foolhardy not to have a "Practice spare", just like your EDC. That way, the fouling and wear don't happen to your EDC, and you need not clean the practice piece nearly as often, saving you time. then, if your EDC is confiscated after a shooting, is lost in a car wreck or fire, etc, you need not panic about running around trying to find another, while the homies of the man you shot or locked up are looking for you. also, if a part breaks in practice, you won't be unarmed for the month or more it takes to get the gun repaired.

The question was posed as a "ponderable." A what if, as What gun would you want during a zombie apocalypse? Just to see how others are thinking. When you make a habit of Necro-posting, you might find the old threads you are digging up are either no longer relevant or the original poster(s) is/are no longer around. | |

so? everybody butches when I post a dozen new threads, cause their "favorites" go off the front page. They are too lazy to post something on said threads to keep them on the page. It's much easier to putsch to a moderator.

it makes perfect sense, if your reading comprehension is on a decent level. I post on the threads that interest me, the same as everyone else does. I have far more interests than 3-4 threads, you see. I am interested in many hundreds of aspects about guns, shooting, survival, ammo, ccw issues, etc.

Oh I'm sure my reading comprehension is just fine. Who would post something just to bump a thread if they're not selling anything? Most members here do not post just for the sake of posting when they have nothing to say (apparently that's changing) but you call it lazy to not post something just to keep a thread active and that makes no sense at all.

there is the diamondack 9mm DB9, so lw and compact that anyone can pocket it easily. there is no reason at all to settle for the 380's 150 ft lbs, when you can easily have almost 400 ft lbs. The difference in stopping probability is quite pronounced, actually. but you have to use the CorBon 100 gr PowRBall, at 1300 fps in the 3" barrel, so you actually do get expansion in flesh, after first "clogging' the hp cavity with clothing debris.
