How many guns are in your CCW "remuda"?

I use quite a few guns from time to time for CCW.

The ones that I use most often are a Glock 26 and a Taurus 85CH .38. After that comes a Glock 22 and a Ruger 3" Sp101.

But from time to time I also (for things like walking the dog, etc.) might choose to carry a Ruger P97 or P95, a Bersa Thunder .380, a Davis O/U .32 ACP caliber derringer, or even a 4" Ruger Gp100 or Springfield 1911A1.

So, I guess, all told, there are ten guns currently in my CCW "remuda".

How many guns are in yours?

Re: How many guns are in your CCW "remuda"?

Three but really only one.

One Colt Combat commander, .45

One Springer milspec commander (updated) .45

one Colt pre 70's Govt upgraded and decorated .45 BBQ gun.

I have enough time figuring which key goes to which car, trying to figure out which gun has the safety where is better left to times when I am not fearing for my life..

Forgot to add, a 6.45 para for my tuxedo gun.

Walther PP in .32ACP
Rossi 351 Snubbie in .38SP
(new) Sig Sauer P238 in .380ACP

Might try a few others as I acquire more holsters.
Geeesh. Even with the few guns I have I have a box of 'em acruing. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: How many guns are in your CCW "remuda"?

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines "remuda" as:
Quote:
the herd of horses from which those to be used for the day are chosen
Theoretically, I've got well over a dozen handguns that I could carry but I guess this is one area where I adhere to the KISS principle - day in and day out, whether there's snow on the ground, as there is today in Arizona's White Mountains, or whether I have to drive to Phoenix at the peak of the summer, I carry the same three guns: A S&W 640-1 in an IWB hoster behind each hip and an older, lighter 640 in the left, front pants pocket. Reflexes are programmed, no need to think abut changing details day to day or season to season. All three are loaded with CorBon's 110 gr. .38 +P DPX load - no question as to which ammo to stuff into which gun, if I ever have to reload under stress.

I learned the word remuda from reading Louis L'amour.

I wasn't questioning its appropriateness. I offered the definition by way of pointing out that, unlike horses, firearms do not tire from being carried and do not need to be rotated on a daily or other periodic basis. (Ammunition, arguably, may be a different matter.)

Oh I dunno, I like the term.
I put my trust in several.
1. H K P2K in a Wild Bills No Such Agency.
2. Glock 32 in a De Santis Scorpion.
3, Colt Commander in a Sparks holster in limited production.

For those of you who operate more than one operating system, do you not worry about that split second pulling out the commander and having the brain say "glock" and you just start yanking the trigger without flipping the safety?

This is my fear, and my reason for ONLY carrying one pattern of weapon, they may be different, but the controls are all exactly the same at exactly the same locations.

Re: How many guns are in your CCW "remuda"?

My carry guns vary by wardrobe . . .

1. S&W 340Sc with Crimson Trace lasergrips, loaded with WW 145gr. STHP .357s. (This is my "Always" gun. If I'm outside the house and legal to carry where I'm going, it's in my pocket.)

2. Glock 26 in a Comp Tac CTAC holster. Loaded with Speer 115 +P+, but I'm looking at Win. Ranger 127 +P+ as Speer availablility is declining.

3. Browning Mk III HP in a Milt Sparks Versa-Max II holster meant for the 1911. Loaded with Remington 115 JHP +P.

Re: How many guns are in your CCW "remuda"?

'Remuda' fits! According to S.I. Hayakawa (Who would have known.) the more literate an author is the more shading and nuance he will apply to even the most conventionally understood of words. Said another way: The slower and less literate a person is, the more difficulty he's going to have trying to keep up with all of the sharper more expressive authors.

My own daily remuda consists of any one, or a combination of any two, of the following:

1. Either of two Glock Model 21's.
2. A Beretta Model 3032.
3. A German Walther PPK-S (For use under an expensive suit jacket for weddings, funerals, and such.)
4. A Smith & Wesson stainless Model 686 w/ a 2 1/2" barrel - Beautiful gun! (For those times when I'm feeling a little less paranoid and in a revolver sort of mood.)
5. A Behlert-built Smith & Wesson Model 59. (For when I'm really feeling less paranoid and carrying a 9mm doesn't seem to bother me.)
6. A 357 Ruger SP-101 with a 3" barrel. (Which I, sometimes, steal from my wife when I'm dressed in something like sweats and wearing a, 'gunny sack'.

Usually, I stay with the G-21's, though, because it's these pistols with which I'm the most heavily practiced.

gun-totin That worried me about my Sigs becaise I'm not very bright and get the decocker mixed up with the slide release. So prior to carrying a Sig i drill with it until it becomes a mechanical skill again. That actually only takes a day or so of intense work because I've carried one so sften.
My son solved it by going DAK and having only one lever.

Have you truly tested yourself under stress after such a switch? Prior to CCW reciprocity in New Mexico, I drove to a gun show in Silver City. Needing to carry openly, I switched to a single six-shot revolver, carried in a holster with a thumb break, a system on which I had had years of prior experience. Additionally, I often lend that holster to students so I have the mental exercise of coaching in its use. On the drive over, I repeatedly reminded myself that I was carrying in a thumb-break holster (and had done numerous repetitions with it prior to getting into the vehicle for the trip). When asked to unload my revolver, as I was paying the admission fee, I tried to draw it while still talking. The distraction of talking was enough to let me try to draw without popping the thumb break.

Maybe some of you are sharper than I am and can transition without these problems but this is one are where I will continue to use the same equipment, guns and hosters, day in and day out.

I only have one holster with any type of retention system; a Blackhawk Serpa, which I use on duty. It only requires aligning the index finger down the outside of the holster to activate and release, no harm/no foul on my off duty carry holsters which are all leather and friction fit (excluding my pocket holsters, of course). It just puts my trigger finger along the frame of the gun, which is fine with me.

Govt model Springfield 1911 and Taurus M85. Carry the .45 in a crossbreed holster. Best carry rig I have ever used for IWB carry.

not so sure I want to tell the world what I have, but I can choose from both revolvers and semi autos from my modest assortment.
