It must be working!
The other day I came out of a local grocery and started across the parking lot and was stoped by a seedy looking guy who wanted money to get his kids to the hospital. I had noticed him when I first came out and watched as he vectored across the lot right at me. He didn't push the issue when I said "No Thanks"and walked away. Obvioiusly I wans't printing the 1911 and two extra mags under my shirt or he probably wouldn't have picked me out in the first place. I think eye contact is what attracted him to me.

This is my choice of words as well and it seems to communicate a degree of confidence without being offensive. It has always worked well for me although I'm sure that it hasn't hurt that it has always been accompanied by a confident body language.
