Flares

Going through my Dad's stuff I haven't perused in a while I found an old flare gun, 27 mm I think marked "Zink".

I expect he "appropriated" it during his service in WW2.

I guess I can still get flares for it.

Anyone ever shot one ?

I have, but only during survival training.

Pro tip: don't let a burning flare get loose in your life raft.

I trust we're not speaking from experience...

No, but anecdotal evidence suggests it's happened, especially with the smaller gyrojets.

"the user also feels a brief wash of warm air from the rocket exhaust."

That made me chortle...
