| Old F A 54 marked ammo
I've got some old ammo - black tipped brass with head stamps of F A 54. I know this is frankford arsenal and think it is 30-06 or 7.62x51 with AP. Can anyone verify?

Should be fine. Not corrosive. Should be 30.06 as the AP loaded for 7.62 was like only two lots much later and it was consumed in testing and wasn't fielded. After firing you need to swage the primer pocket to get rid of the primer crimp rim. If you care for this brass properly by cleaning and stress relieving the necks and not oversizing it, you should get 50+ reloads out of a bolt rifle. If it is in the original can the minimum expected storage life is 125 years. |
