My friend German Salazar did a study showing muzzle flash on different primers and it is referenced in one of the primer threads here.

If you want an eye opener, get three or four makes of the same size primer and load the same load in ten rounds with each of the four and chronograph them and you will see an amazing variation of velocity spreads.

Then you change propellant and the hot one is now the middle and the low one is somewhere else. Every time you make a change the world changes. Ever heard the old saying "just when I knew all the answers they changed all the questions". That is what primer changes can get for you when different propellants are used. Change bullet weights and it all changes again.

Hummer is right of course, but there is more.

First if you mean real temperature there isn't much difference but if you think choosing a "hotter" primer would make the bullet go faster that's wrong too.

Maybe we should start with a question: what are you hoping to learn?

I am not familiar with BR4. You might check this to see how it rates. A quick scan I did not see the number.

What caliber are you loading it in?
