Is the A.T.F. going to storm my house if I buy AP ammo online? ( If they are not going to any way) also, how good is it in .308 and .30-06? what can it do?

I am not sure about New York as a state but I am pretty sure that .308/7.62 AP is a no-go in the United States as a whole.

30/06 AP is legal and works....REALLY WELL  I am a police officer and a firearms instructor for my department. We have some steel T1 laminate targets that our snipers shoot with their .308 PSS rifles at 100 yards. After a full day of shooting these they spray a coat of paint on them and they are as good as new. I have a case of TW 43 AP that will shoot through 3 of them in a row at 50 yards and stick halfway out of the 4th. Each is 1/4" thick.

I thought it would be cool to recover a core from one of these so I tried to knock it out of the plate with a hammer, and dimpled the face of the hammer without moving the core. It is like a needle sharp .25 caliber bullet. Regular ball and SP ammo won't even dent these at 50 yards. TJR

As mentioned earlier, 30'06 is OK in the US, but .308 (7.62x51 NATO) is not.

The vendor probably (but not always) knows if it can be shipped to your address.

I do note that one of the "Surplus" dealers is selling the AP projectiles only, in case you want to reload some '06. :)

Always check your local and State laws. Here's some info on NY statutes:
http://wings.buffalo.edu/law/bclc/web/NewYork/ny3(b).htm
A legit dealer will know if it's legal to ship AP ammo or components to your address but check the law yourself. If State and local law allows it's ok to own, reload, buy, and shoot AP ammo in any RIFLE chambered in .308. The problem is that AP ammo can not be owned or shot in pistols or handguns. There are "pistols" such as the Savage Striker, Thompson Contender, SSK, etc chambered in .308 Win. If you do not own a pistol chambered in .308 or 7.62x39 then you are legal. Check this site and the above post on M61 Projectiles:

If your State and local laws allow, you can load, shoot, or buy AP ammo. You can load AP bullets in your .300 Weatherby if you like as well in your .308 Win chambered rifle. Also check with your local range as some do not want you shooting AP bullets at their club or range.
The reference to making AP ammo refers to manufacturing the bullet ITSELF and not to loading AP ammo from pulled components that you've bought. The IMPORTANT info is to know your local and State laws concerning AP ammo.
