Southern Ammo

My borther and I picked up 1000rds from Southern Ammo last Friday. The folks there are very nice to say the least. It was tumbled, but some of the rounds still had tarnish on them. Also, shadows from the MG links were visible on some of the rounds. One round was actually a misfire with the dented primer and all! One round looked like my sister's dog used it as a chew toy.

I found the following headstamps in the mix:

IMI: mid 90's to 01 dates of mfgr.
WCC: 78-79
FN: 74-75
SMI: 75 (Italian)
IVI 68
A 76
Of the head stamps above, there was only a small sampling of these headstamps, 30rds or less.
TZ & TZZ 77-84
Here is the tricky one: a Hebrew symbol that looks like a backwards 'K' and the pi symbol with the dates of 65-74 (they had the month stamped on them too) and 74-77

Most of the ammo was the stuff with Hebrew symbols and TZ. Sorry I don't have a range report yet. I hope to get one this weekend.

Also, FWIW, I saw a business card from a guy who works in the Isreali Ministrey of Defense. So I guess it's safe to say future batches will be from there?

Mr. Petty, Southern Ammo has been importing this stuff for years. You are correct in that it is available in both 5.56 and 7.62. From the headstamps, it sounds like 7.62, although Italian 7.62 is a new one in the mix.

I've used up several thousands of this ammo without mishap.

Ooops. Guess I should have proofed my post  Sorry gents, it was 7.62 NATO we picked up. It was the good reviews on this site that prompted us to buy some of this ammo.

Yeah, the SMI was a new one on me too.

JR--What was the accuracy (sp) of your batch of Southern Ammo like? What kind of rifle(s) did you shoot it in?

Thanks

Chili, M14 select-fire rifle, M1A, H&K G3, FN-FAL, FR-8, Ishapore 2A, Sig SHR 970, Rem 700.

Reliability was 100%. Accuracy was in the 1-2" range. It's not Match ammo. Several of the weapons were select-fire, so that may have accounted for some of the variation. Also, all of the military rifles were iron sights. :D
