I've heard a lot of folks here say they would never use Wolf ammo and I really wonder whether those statements are backed up by objective evidence or simple prejudice.

Just for grins I have incldued Wolf .45 ball in two recent accuracy tests and in both cases the ammo was equal to or better than any load tested from U.S. sources.

Yesterday is used it in a new Charles Daly 1911 against 4 other loads. Those 4 averaged 3.6" for three 10 shot groups @25 yd. from Ransom Rest. The Wolf averaged 2.4".

Kinda makes me wonder....

It wont feed through my Para P-14, the cases seem to stick to the sides of the mag. My brother has a Llama, and it doenst like to feed it either (but then, I dont think it feeds ANY ammo 100%). I havent heard any reliable reports about misfires, squibs, case failure, or overcharges with wolf ammo though.

Charlie; Since you asked -- I have a real problem with Wolf .223 and I refuse to shoot it. Several years ago I was given an assignment to do a story on a semi-auto .223 rifle (name with-held to protect the guilty) and the editor requested I use Wolf ammo in its testing because they were a big advertiser.

Long story short, the gun had an extremely tight "match" chamber and the combination of that together with the lacquer coated steel case ammo created a situation right out of gunwriter hell. Any string of more than five rounds melted the lacquer on the next round fed and if it wasn't fired immediately -- IT STUCK IN THE CHAMBER. I virtually ruined the gun in my testing all of which yielded a story that wasn't very complimentary to the gun manufacturer, nor to Wolf Ammo and I got paid zilch because the aforementioned editor refused to publish the story without major revisions -- which I refused to do.

I'm guilty of many sins, but stealing and lying are not among them. The story was killed and I didn't even get a 'kill' fee. So now you know what I think of Wolf Ammo.

Therefore, I avoid lacquer coated steel case ammo like the plague in everything but the guns originating from the former Eastern Bloc.

Hi Farmer Frank...

My post referred to .45, but I thought they had gone to a teflonish coating on everything now.

FWIW I have never fired a round of Wolf rifle ammo but have shot a bunch of 9, 40 and .45 with no problems at all.

I thought it was interesting that the cheapest ammo on the planet shot best in that specific gun.

Charlie; Having been burned severely (at least in my view) by this stuff once, I'm extremely non-receptive to it except for use in the guns made for it during the Cold War or their current civilian legal versions. (I feel the Russian and Soviet calibers are a whole new and different ball game for this stuff.)

If you like it regardless of caliber great, but if you ever stop and visit our flatland farm I will give you all I have in storage ammo cans because I refuse to shoot it in "MY" guns. I won't give it out to my local friends because I don't want any 'come-backs'.

All the Best,
Frank W. James

My Kimber shoots wolf 45 very well with 100% reliability to date. I use it when shooting in areas it would be hard to find my brass.

I too had trouble with wolf 223 in the old cases. The new polymer coated cases feed 100% so far in my carbine. Accuracy is just so-so but it seems reliable after 500 rounds.

What's "new" Pop?

Tell me something about "all sorts of failures".

Also, I'm a little concerned about reading skills here... my original post talked about the accuracy of Wolf .45 ACP. As it turns out I haven't had any stoppages with it, but that wasn't my point.

Hard primers. *click* *click* *bang* *click* *click* click* *bang*

Fail to feed.

Last time I saw a 1911 jam was with Wolf 45acp. Approximately 2yrs ago.

I believe it a Colt series 70 1911 that wouldn't eat Wolf ammo.

No it was a Sig P220!!! And a Smith 625.

My Sig P220, Mikey, because it normally eats everything without a problem.

This was the lacquered stuff, bought 500 rounds of the stuff four years ago. It had hard primers and 1 of 5 would not go off in my Smith 625. Had to tighten up the screw thingy in the grip to get it to shoot the stuff reliably. (Yes with moon clips)

Then it seized up my P220, when I had a newbie shooting it! Poor guy was traumatized, thought he had destroyed the gun. The lacquer melted and the round jammed the slide out of battery.

Took a muscle bound Jarhead to free the slide :D

It was also the filthiest 45ACP I ever used. Smelled bad too.

I understand the new stuff is not lacquered.

I shot a box of Wolf and a box of American Eagle through my Colt's Govt. Model MK IV, Series 70 last month. I had 2 stovepipes with the Wolf, but the AE performed flawlessly. I have shot a lot of Wolf ammo in 9mm and .40 S&W in the past- I can't recall any real problems except it was very dirty. I would choose Wolf over A-Merc, otherwise I will stick with WWB, Rem UMC, AE, Speer Lawman(if I see a sale), Blazer original aluminum or Brass, Magtech, and Fiocchi. Blazer Brass is my current favorite and it is available most of the time at the local Wal-Marts. There are good prices on Blazer aluminum at the http://www.natchezss.com website. Blazer is very clean ammo compared to Wolf. I will still buy Wolf in 7.62x39. Very few shooters are neutral on Wolf- some like it, some don't.

I've tried Wolf in several of my firearms with varying degrees of failure....not success. Only my Yugo SKS will eat the stuff. Not even my Russian M44 likes it! It is the only ammo that gives me a sticky bolt!
I'm also an NRA and Ohio CCW instructor. We do not allow Wolf ammo to be used in our classes. It is tough enough to be handleing multiple novice shooters on the range at one time without having someone waving a firearm around that has jammed!
No thanks. I'll still use it in my yugo, but that is all.
