Well folks, I got screwed. It ruined my day.
I went to the range today with my HBAR AR15 and other guns.....
First mess, well, Richmond Hill, GA range was literally flooded. I had to go to 4WD Low 2nd gear to get there....muddy and flooded. The range itself was a bog.
Next mess.
I had purchased a case (1000 rounds) of Olympic SS109.
It was accurate....but.....
After a few rounds, my rifle wouldn't operate.
I had: Failure to eject, failure to feed, failure to remove expended case from chamber, etc.
I relubed and tried 2 more mags...same thing.
I had another guy who built his AR15 look at mine: no extractor problems, no magazine problems (I began to use a brand new mag that I had just opened from the wrap and loaded it). No gas port problems, no rifle part problems noticed. Same thing.
I finished 2 20 round mags and had started on the third mag, a brand new 30 rounder....I was in bolt-action mode by this time.
Looks like I had short-cycling. That means Olympic Ammo is not loaded to spec.
In disgust, I quit. I left the range, and maneuvered through the bog to get home....glad I have 4WD....
I called the gunshop, and told him. He said "first time I have heard of that..." Apparently, the guys he sold several cases to fired it and had no problems out of carbine and M4 length barrels. I guess I was the first to try it out in a rifle barrel. Possible reason: gas tubes on carbines are shorter than gas tubes on rifles.....
Waste of money. I have 958 rounds of garbage that I need to dispose of....or possibly pull bullets and repack the powder. OR try it out in my M4 when I get back to South Carolina....
What a mess.....at least it didn't blow up on me like Indian ammo has done to others...
