Anyone tried the Costco emergency food kits?

These things look like they might be worthwhile. The calorie content is a bit skimpy, but the shelf life is good and the variety is OK.

Anyone here tried them?

Well, I just now ordered one ... so I will see.
As you say the calorie count is not what it could be. In as much as I don't need calories (I need a diet!) that could be a good thing.
I am starting to take prep for "SHTF" a little more seriously .... and this might be a good start on supplies. Guns & Ammo I have -- I think many of us do. But where we fall down is other needed supplies, and truthfully, food and medical stuff is probably more needful than another gun in the safe.

Re: Anyone tried the Costco emergency food kits?

There's something that always bothers me about these emergency kits:
They contain freeze-dried food. To quote from Costco's website, "Must have water and a heat source."
In a real emergency, water will be at a premium.
Therefore, I suggest that MREs would be a better choice. They already have the needed water "built-in." The only other water you need is for drinking.
Yes, MREs are heavier and bigger. But if you have to carry extra water to prepare freeze-dried food, you're back where you started. Besides, how much heavy hiking are you going to be doing?

That's a good point.
Well, I only ordered one bucket so it's not like I have a fortune invested.
I can go to MREs in the future.

I happen to have a large plastic container of water I got for Y2K. I think I will exchange the water in it tomorrow ..... Water doesn't go bad but it gets .... well, in this case, "plastic."
