Identifying Stevens shotgun

Gentlemen, I picked up an old Stevens SxS shotgun today no model number, no ser.Number. Looking through Numrich I found the triggerguard listed as Savage/Stevens/Fox Model B. Has double triggers, Ejector, 30 SXS barrels with solid rib and twin beads,No model no. on gun, Receiver is case-hardened with engraved hunting dog on leftside and Stevens on rightside, no hammers. Has Beavertail forend with pressed checkering, no checkering on buttstock. Left barrel says'Proof-tested 12 gauge' right barrel says 'Selected Forged Steel'. Barrel has FJ and two capital As in circles stamped on bottom of left barrel, as does channel in forend and receiver. Buttstock has single hole in butt with two screwholes, no checkering.

what model number is this?

Don't know if this is any help but, my Stevens model 311 has EJ stamped on the left barrel. The orther markings are as you mention, except no engraving and a 4 digit serial number in real small numbers on the right side of the case hardened receiver. Mine is circa 1955 with the "Tenite (plastic)" stock and foreend. The trigger guard on this one appears to be aluminum.

This is my second 311 and they have been good shooters. I was able to find them cheap for shooting cowboy action. Just never got around to putting a wood stock on this one.

Hope this helps.

Re: Identifying Stevens shotgun

Dan, sorry it took so long to get back to you. first, thanks for the reply. Mine has walnut stock and beavertail forearm, looked on both sides, no numbers. Just Stevens so, I figure it was built before the J.Stevens co. started.

Sounds like a standard Fox Model B, Savage Arms had purchased both Stevens and A. H. Fox, and combined the Fox name with the somewhat bulky but sturdy Stevens side-by-side shotgun to produce the Fox Model B series. These were made from 1940 to 1986.
