Does anyone know where to get the parts to convert a winchester 1897 to a military trench gun configuration (bayonet lug and heatshield). I'd get a norinco copy, but I've heard some bad things about them so I'll get an original and convert it.

the very early NORINCOs had some issues with them........but that is not the case for the newer ones, I bought one last year and I can tell you without a doubt it is one fine shotgun, I haven't had any problems with it and it fires and feeds great. the walnut stock on it is beautiful, the bluing is also very nice. it's a exact copy of the trench gun going for 2,000+ bucks.............put a 1903 leather sling on it, and a 1917 bayonet and you got one nice shotgun

IMA had, or still sells a repo heat shield bayonet lug for the trench gun if you want to go that route. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the regular 97 shotgun barrel is a bit longer then the trench model

i have an acquaintance who is selling a 30's 97 that was cut down and refinished. with the heat shield added.

he has said that he'd be willing to part with it. if you want to talk to him. PM me and i'll get you his info.

ok, I've got my Winchester 97 and a book detailing the specifications about the M97 trenchguns. Now, the barrels of the trench guns had 3 groves cut in them to allow for the 3 screws that mount the heat shield. My question is, should I have a gunsmith cut these groves in my barrel? or should I get a repro trenchgun barrel from numrich? thanks
