Forget Something?

How many of you shooters have packed up, gone to the range, set-up, got ready to shoot and realized you forgot(Pick one Muffs/Earplugs, Ammo, Spotting scope, yada, yada, yada. We've all done it, some I suspect, more than once. I learned to do something that might help. I like to get everything ready the night before so I'm not rushed. First thing I do is...go to the range before I go to the range. I sit there with a pen and paper and go through setting up and shooting each firearm I'm going to bring. As I do I write down every item I reach for to shoot the gun with.

Example with list underneath;

My Model 66. I sit down at the bench and put in my Earplugs and Shooters. I open the case and take out the 66. Then I set-up the Spotting scope and my rest. Then, I get out my mousepad(To set the handgun on), get out the ammo. Then, I get out the pen and the logbook for the 66. This done, I set up a target on my For Sale sign stand. Now, I'm ready to shoot.

LIST:
Model 66
Earplugs and Shooting glasses
Spotting Scope
Handgun Rest
Mousepad
Ammo
Pen
Logbook
Targets
Target Stand
Now I'm ready for a day at the range with that gun and I haven't forgotten anything. Go through this with every gun and cross out the multiple listings. You won't forget anything.

Re: Forget Something?

I have two range bags that stay permanently packed with all my tools, accessories, magazines, earmuffs, etc.

The .22 ammo I buy at Walmart, I just leave in the trunk. Since I usually buy more than I shoot, I always have plenty in there. First of the year I clean out the trunk and start buying again for the coming year.

Once I forgot my targets, so I went to the nearest open store (grocery) and bought a couple packs of plain white paper to shoot at. These now also live in the trunk.

Now that I've bragged about how smart and well-prepared I am, I've surely condemned myself to forget something on my very next trip.

I've forgotten earplugs. I used two rounds of ammo. Yeah, I know; it's a cliche' or something, but it's better than nothing.

I was lucky I was not shooting .22 that time .......

I've tried - and given up - keeping a log book for guns. Too much of a PITA.
If I have any doubts about spring life, etc., in semiautos, I just replace them.

I do like the idea of "going to the range" before going to the range.
That could save me some aggravation even though I live pretty close to where I can shoot.

Re: Forget Something?

No, I'm the poster child of forgetfulness. I once went to a range, got set up, and looked in my range bag and had NO gun. I had left them pn my workbench at home, gotten a phone call from a friend, picked up a ange bag filled with ammo, etc and left my guns at home. Tht folks was embarrasing.
