Searching for my old .22 Foremost
After reading a couple of posts on the old JC Penney Foremost 22 rifles I thought I would ask for help tracking down the exact model/manufacturer of my first .22. I don't have the rifle as it was stolen a couple years after high school and I never wrote the serial number down.
My .22 was labeled Foremost and it was a bolt action .22 with a 7 shot magazine inserted underneath. The one I ordered off of the catalog came with a cheap scope that never worked well, but the rifle itself was very accurate with the iron sights. It was purchased around 1970 or so.
I'd appreciate any input, I'll never see the original again, but sure would like to track down the exact model and shop around for one in really good condition. It was a great rifle and it still bugs me that I don't have it. It's not just sentimental value, it was a lot of fun to shoot! There was an old abandoned telephone line along an old unused road just outside of the town I grew up in and I believe I cleared every old glass insulator off of those lines down a 2 mile stretch!
Times have changed so much. When I grew up, a kid could walk through town with a loaded rifle and nobody gave it a passing thought...

I read a post earlier suggesting that Marlin made a lot of them, but there were other manufacturers as well. I've done some searching of various listings of models, but have not found one that seems to match the rifle I owned. I've seen a few bolt actions but they tend to be single shot without the type of magazine mine had.
Still searching... thanks for the reply!

Numrich catalog says Foremost was a JC Penny, The 6610 was made by Savage, the 6630 was Glenfield, that would be Marlin, the 6647 by Savage and Springfield, the 6660 Marlin, the,6670 Savage and Springfield, the 6870 and 6870H by Savage. If you buy a Numrich Catalog thgey have a reference in the back that tells who made what store brand. It also has diagrams that may help you identify your rifle. One bearcat to another.
